I signed up to give blood yesterday but they rejected me because I was a malaria risk. Now I'm paranoid that I might have malaria. I have mosquito bites from Mexico that still haven't gone away and I can never stay awake between the hours of 7 and 8 pm. I'm back in the US. Ironically when we landed in Houston (I refuse to call it George Bush International Airport) all the signs were still in Spanish and the employees there were speaking it. When we last contacted you we had just emerged from the jungle and were on our way to Chichen Itza (which is also in the jungle). We did in fact make it to Chichen Itza where I added several more birds to my life list. The ruins were fantastic, the hotel was top end and the food was terrible. Must write quickly, internet time limited. Am living in jungle hut in remote Mayan village. Internet provided by satellite dish. Parrots everywhere. Coati. Dogs and pigs and turkeys running free. We´re here in Cozumel on the 2nd day of our honeymoon. Yesterday it rained all day. Today we toured the island in a beat up 70s VW Bug convertible. We wanted to visit the ecological reserve that was rumoured to be the home of various herons, but like so many things here it was closed due to "hurricane damage". goldenmoonbear now claims to have seen grebe courtship display, a bald eagle and a bat cave. Meanwhile, I found Scooter's secret pooping grounds behind the couch and punished him by making him run around in his ball.

The last roll of photos from Puerto Vallarta has arrived and lordy me, it's from our amazing underwater camera.

I wrote to Peter Cashwell yesterday to tell him how much I liked his book "The Verb To Bird" and surprisingly he wrote back with an XTC related bird story. I spent most of my PV beach time reading said book and it is brilliant.
