UPDATE: The guitar is already over 300$ plus 40$ shipping with more than 3 hours left on the clock...I think it's taken the decision out of my hands and thus I'll be making the prop myself! But the listing had really detailed pictures of the bits of the guitar which will be super useful in making a replica.
I've already found the right neck on ebay for 30~ dollars, and a base made of ash looks to be another 30~ or so and I've got friends with wood-working tools to help me get it the right shape, so I think that's how I'll go.
Ooh yes, and does anyone have reccamendations for material/paint to fake a mirrored surface?

OK, so I mentioned a while back (and then my computer died so I may have missed some comments which I shall now go back and check.....) that I'm working on Haruhi's rock star outfit.
Now, one of the main parts of that outfit is a very expensive guitar, an Italia Mondial Classic in either red or 'tobacco sunburst' depending on the reference shot.
Now, ebay currently HAS the exact guitar in red for just over 250$ with shipping (they're usually 600+ for reference.) There's still some hours left so it may shoot up in price before then, but it's about within it now (give or take a week of eating ramen full time.)
oh, and I should mention that I can't play the guitar, so its actual playability is really only useful for resale value...^ - ^;;;;;
I was planning on making a prop guitar, there's tutorials about how to make guitars and mine doesn't even need to work, but this would have all the details! Anyway, here's pros and cons, and you guys can tell me:
pros: cons:
authenticity at least 100$ more expensive
don't have to replicate the details kinda looking forward to making it
kinda awesome heavier, can't modify as intended to keep my stuff in
saves time might just be too spendy
could sell afterwards? "tobacco sunburst" guitar in more reference pics, and is prettier
