Let's play a game. I call it: "Crazy or Awesome?!"

UPDATE: The guitar is already over 300$ plus 40$ shipping with more than 3 hours left on the clock...I think it's taken the decision out of my hands and thus I'll be making the prop myself! But the listing had really detailed pictures of the bits of the guitar which will be super useful in making a replica.
I've already found the right neck on ebay ( Read more... )

Yeah, someone suggested I rent one for the convention and not only is that spendy (like 70~ for the weekend, and I'm not even sure they rent ones that fancy..) but the idea of taking a breakable musical insturment to a con....? O_O;;;;;;

I'd say stick to making a prop guitar. While the authentic one is super cool, if you don't plan on playing it, or selling it too someone who does play guitar, it will only sit and collect dust after the convention.

On the flip side, if you can spare the price tag, then by all means go for it! $250+, in my opinion, is a little more than I'd like to spend on a prop.

your icon is adorable....

Yeah, it's totally going to skyrocket over my price tag, too. I just wish I could find someone to sell me a broken one! But that'd be pretty lucky, I guess.

If you have the money and really want to do it, then go for it. It would be awesome to have that as a prop. However, I would ask myself the question, am I going to regret spending $250 on a prop that might end up collecting dust in the corner of my room?
Then again, if I had a bunch of money to spend on my cosplays regularly I might go ahead and buy it anyway XD

I'd go for the real one, I imagine getting a prop made would be just as much money.

Also guitars can go up in value, you can probably sell for some price or more! Just keep it in good condition and if you want to resell, aim toward guitar enthusiasts, maybe even a pawn shop.

fortunately I'd be making it myself and I've got some ideas for parts--a lot of guitar parts are available on ebay I discovered (like knobs and necks and body bases) which is kinda awesome and useful, especially since I don't actually need mine to *work* at the end, just look cool.
