Supernatural 3.2 - The Kids are Alright

I thought this was a better effort than the premiere, but only slightly. It still seemed a bit off. I think this is partly due to the boys spending most of the episode apart, and I don't tend to like the ones where that happens very much. The brotherly interaction is why I watch, so it's just not as much fun when they're separated. That said, I know it's necessary sometimes and I understand why they're doing it, but that doesn't mean I have to enjoy watching it. But I do like that Sam is trying to help Dean without him knowing, and having that lead to bad lying on Sam's part and funny faces from Dean as a result. Sam's normally pretty good at lying to strangers, but I guess not when it comes to his brother, huh?
I also liked that this episode was pretty bright. They shot this in, what, late July/early August? We had a crappy summer but it's good to see the rain held off for a few days.

Ben was pretty adorable, even if some of it seemed a little forced (how many eight year olds are that into girls? Aren't they still at the "Eww, cooties!" stage?). I loved it when said he wasn't a bitch and Dean showing him how to fight back. Dean would be a great dad - he's always so good with kids. However, I'm glad Ben isn't his, because Dean is all about family and he'd probably want to stay in contact with the kid and look after him. Which could raise some problems, story-wise. So it's just as well he's not. But Dean is leaving a legacy in his own right with the job he does, which is some sort of comfort, I guess.

Couple other things:

- The saw scene is one of the most disgusting things this show has ever done. I haven't been that grossed out in awhile. I had to cover my eyes, seriously.

- Okay, I can see why Ben's mom is suspicious about why Dean is there, but you know what? If Dean Winchester shows up on your doorstep, don't question it. Just be grateful. Although, Dean? Maybe giving her a fradulent credit card isn't such a good idea. Hey, she'll really trust you when she finds out you're a wanted felon!

- Something occurred to me as I was watching this. We know the Yellow Eyed Demon is referred to by that name among hunters, but what about by other demons? Surely there must be other demons with yellow eyes, and that would get confusing for them, wouldn't it? So I'm going to venture that YED has a regular name he's called by other demons. Like Charles.

- Sam in a suit is yummy.

- Sooo, the Girl Who Has not Yet Been Identified But Is Apparently Named Ruby is a demon? Well, that kind of makes sense, actually - who else besides a demon would know so much about the Winchesters, and stuff that Sam himself doesn't even know? She's probably been around awhile, observing from down there. The mystery surrounding Mary sounds intriguing, so I want to see where that goes. But the girl is a demon, and there's no such thing as a good demon, so she must want something in return for his help. Maybe she's trying to become queen of the underworld or something.

(Btw, show, it's "all right", not "alright". Sorry, I know it's a musical reference, but I'm a grammar nut, so I can't leave that alone.)
