Last week, my brother asked me if I wanted to switch to light speed internet from our current high speed connection, since it would save about $30 a month. I said okay, figuring I probably wouldn't notice much of a difference. Well, I didn't...until I tried to look at some graphics. Now, if I want to look at icon posts or anything remotely image heavy, I have to open it in another tab and wait for it to load while I look at something else. Half the time it doesn't even work and the page just won't load at all. And last night, realizing I'd missed Degrassi again (CTV, could you stop moving it around the schedule so much without giving any notice first?), I thought I'd watch it on CTV's site. Yeah. Bad idea. It would play for five seconds, freeze up, go all jerky, play another five seconds, and repeat. Since it was impossible to watch that way, I paused it and went to go do something else. I came back half and hour later and it was still streaming - and it was only a 10 minute clip! God help me if I wanted to see the next two parts of the episode. I finally did, but that was ridiculous. I clearly didn't realize how much of a difference there is between light speed and high speed. I've got so used to stuff working right away, just like that, that I don't think I can go back. In hindsight, it was a pretty stupid idea. I mean, no one ever says "Actually, it's too fast. Could you make the internet go slower, please?" So yeah, we are fixing this NOW. I don't care how much it costs, it's worth every penny.
