Well, I finished the Murakami and moved on to the latest of Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampires books, Last breath. And it's really good. This series just keeps itself so light, fresh and pleasant; I can't help enjoying it every time. And then it becomes a page turner too... Among Christmas present buying and baby stuff, quietly got to the third book of Murakami's 1Q84. Awesome to be reading him again, his early compelling story and beautifully put together oddness is as good as anything in that kind of magical realism or fantastic fiction line gets for me.

Finished reading my fourth Christopher Brookmyre novel now, "all fun and games until somebody loses an eye." Finished Charlaine Harris' first "Aurora Teagarden" mystery novel - fast but good fun, not supernatural. I'm two books into her grave series too. Also good, though neither match True Blood.

Hmmm, good books.

• "French Drawings: Clouet to Seurat", the catalogue from a 2006 exhibition at the British Museum. Lovely book. 100+ drawings with loads of notes on their history and artists and style. Fascinating stuff.
• Elise Harris' book of poems - Little Circus -little poetry collection which was really refreshing. It's a long time since I've read ( Read more... )

Christmas has been ok. Entertained the parents on Christmas day, which went pretty well, the turkey was good and even of the potatoes didn't quite work, they were still very nice. I don't think I've really wanted to like a book so much before reading it for years - Boneshaker is the first Cherie Priest novel I've read, and I love the steampunk idea, plus she's one of the seattle crew - which includes Richelle Mead. Richelle M does the fantastic Succubus series, among other things, and I like Caitlin Kittredge's books almost ( Read more... )

Finished reading Amber Benson's latest book, Death's Daughter, a few days ago. I enjoyed it - it's very lightweight and comedic, kind of asking to be a comic really, more consciously frothy than the usual Urban Fantasy that it could otherwise be grouped with. Pretty good stuff.
