Just a baseball rant, pay no attention

Ugh, really Mets? Just had to piss me off one more time before the season ends?

Tuned in to the (mercifully) last Mets game of the season specifically to see Jose Reyes, hoping he will win the batting title, and hoping it is not his last game as a Met. We've had him since he was 19, but he deserves all good things...

So, I'm a few minutes late and it's the bottom of the first ...and Jose has already been pulled from the game.

Seriously?!

Jose got a hit and they pulled him from first for a pinch runner.

Now, I understand the reasoning. They want Jose to be able to get an ovation (hopefully not final) from the crowd, a fabulous sendoff. They also, let's face it, want to protect his average. (I disagree with that move.) But in the first inning? Half the fans aren't even in their seats yet. People like me haven't turned the game on yet. And he's out? People who went out to watch a miserable team on a miserable day in a meaningless game, all ten of them, are there to see Jose Reyes. And they're still getting their hot dogs and beers when they hear a roar and by the time they hustle up the runway, Jose is gone? Angry would not begin to describe it.

The announcers are so disappointed. They've admitted there is no other reason to watch the game. Or as Keith Hernandez just said, with a sigh and a shrug, "Well, all the air's been let out of the tires." Honestly, they are talking about their dinner plans. Ooh, and now Ralph Kiner is going off on it. You tell 'em, Ralph.

Man. I was really looking forward to having Jose carry me though the rest of my kitchen cleaning. And now if Ryan Braun goes 3 for 4 tonight, he wins the title. A batting title, the Mets first ever batting title, is the only positive thing that could be scavenged from this season. That and maybe re-signing Reyes.

*pats Jose Reyes bobblehead doll*

Did I mention I'm going to a Devils game Saturday night? *sigh*

baseball, mets
