The new US TV is not as inspiring as past seasons. There is an epic amount of white guy, white guy, blonde woman. There's been perhaps way too much voice over action. Nothing is recommending itself to me with a lot of passion.
I really want to love Matador because 1. Gabriel Luna is adorable, 2. soccer, 3. Peter Gadiot and Sammi Rotibi are also adorable, 4. Did I mention the soccer? 5. all the regular white guys in the show are judged so harshly. I mean, Noah, Tony's CIA handler's offsider is just a dickhead. Tony and Annie roll their eyes at each other over him all the time. It's delightful. On the other hand there's a lot of violence. I ffed through much of it this ep. (Alert to
marina: torture of a stoic pretty man (the dickhead). Fairly sure there was crying towards the end.) And while the investigative/sports journalist and her phone hacker consultant are clearly at least queer, their first conversation was scripted right out of "hot lesbo action for guys". Seriously.
I started on The Strain but have dumped it. Unfortunately the gruesome supernatural action kept being interrupted by a world of 'married to the job/estranged family' storyline. We get it, self important lead character needs to learn a lesson about actually putting his son first, not just saying it but who the fuck cares? Give me some gruesome vampires, guy. Meh.
The Divide is nearly over and has been super. Excellent, excellent cast. Can't imagine how it won't all end in tears.
Content warning for suicide attempt and discussion of suicide, near graphic discussion of past rape and flashbacks.
The Lottery has great female leads, women developing plot relevant relationships/alliances with each other. I'm intrigued by the mystery, though I will be disappointed if it turns out to be just 'massive government cover up whatevs'. I suspect there may be threatened child harm, threatened or actual harm of pregnant women in this show at some time.
