The ad blitz has begun for the live action version of Space Battleship Yamato, which was called Star Blazers in the U.S. back in the 70's. Here a Japanese talk show talks about some of the ads. It looks like you can even get your very own Hello Kittys in Yamato uniforms. Assuming you would want something like that.

No plans for a release in the United States unfortunately. They could have skipped the 70's hair in my opinion, but I guess they're trying to keep as close as possible to the classic anime.

I was going to write an LJ entry tonight, but LJ had a maintenance cycle. I watched anime (Final Yamato) on YouTube instead. Now that LJ is back I'm too tired and lost interest. Isn't that how it always goes.

Those of you into Japanese sci-fi anime should enjoy this trailer for a new film being released in Japan in December 2009. It's the latest film in the "Space Battleship Yamato" series after a 26 year break. The last film released, "Final Yamato"  (1983), still retains the title of the longest animated film, clocking in at 163 minutes.

Unauthorized cameras aren't usually allowed on sets. In fact, snapping pictures is almost always guaranteed to get you immediately kicked off the set. Sometimes in spite of these controls, an enterprising paparazzi will manage to snap some stealth pictures. The rise of the Internet and spoilers has lead to varying degrees of paranoia on some sets. I love animation for a variety of reasons, especially Pixar animation. I went last night to a midnight premiere showing of Up. I thought it was a fantastic movie. It's not without its flaws though.
