yes, i just came back from another awesome frisbee weekend, and instead of doing the tons of homework i should be, i've decided to tell you all about it. really, i feel like i personally played better than ever, especially today, but ill get to that in due coarse.
Naturally, I should start with a long-ish drive on Friday evening over to C-chow's house in Amherst, MA. we know that we have arrived because there are about 10-15 kids in their back yard watching as we pull into the driveway. yep, her 13 yr-old brother has invited all his friends (co-ed, you should know! brother is a playah!) over to play games in their back yard, coupled with the 16 frisbee players that enter this small, suburban house to spend the night, but thats e-wo love, and we especially love parents that are willing to let us sleep in their basement and even feed us homecooked dinner. it was awesome. we also had to make costumes on friday night for the party on saturday. The theme of the party: favorite holidays. What did the ewo do as our favorite holiday? Labor day. literally, labor day. as in, we went as pregnant women about to give birth. it was awesome.
okay, enough about friday. we wake up pretty early saturday to get to Williams by 10:30 to play 4 games. we won the first 3 games against Northeastern, Amherst College, and UVM. thus, we won our pool and went on to play a cross-over game against Cornell. by the 4th game, we were tired and we got moved to a crappy field. really, we were running through a marsh on the field, and it was awful. so we pretty much gave up after a few points (i know, it was bad), and lost the cross-over game 13-1. But the good news, that game didn't even matter after all!
After the games, we went over to the "field house" to be served dinner. Although much more hectic than expected and less fulfilling (they actually ran out of food before everybody ate... at least our team ate all we could!) Anyways, we devoured food, and headed over to a random guy's dorm to spend the night. this is why this is such an awesome tournament and teams come from all over the east coast (as far south as G.W. in washington, D.C. and Delaware!)- the tournament includes dinner, housing, and a party, which is much more than almost any other tournament in the world! anyways, we go over to the random Williams dorm, throw all our stuff in the common area where we will sleep, take showers, and change into party outfits. and then proceed to pregame with drinks in our baby bottles. yep, it was pretty crazy. After pregaming with the pregnant ewo, we went over to pregame with the emen. they went as "cinco de mayo", and thus were all mexican poncho clad (except derek, who was a taco). it was hilarious.
And now, the worst part of the weekend, the party. or rather, the non-party. So we cross Williams campus to the party location only to find a giant group of crazy dressed frisbee players crowded on the porch pushing, shoving, screaming, etc. so naturally, we join the group and get pushed around, etc. this is made more uncomfortable because all the ewo had balloons under our shirts, and thus took up about twice the space as everybody else. so with all the pushing and noise from OUTSIDE the party location, the police came and kicked everybody off the porch. reminder, included in the tournament fee is the beer at this party, basically, we payed for the party. anyways, the police told us the builiding was full to capacity, so we had to wait until people started leaving before we could enter. doesn't that suck? so me and a few other ewo just left then and there. but a few ewo and basically the whole emen team stayed and either snuck in through the window or waited to be allowed in legally. it was pretty bad. and then, i was told the party wasn't even that great, the band sucked, and it was just bad. so im glad i got to go back, read, talk, and sleep.
Now onto sunday, where my story slows down and ends. basically, we played in the quarterfinals, where we won to Harvard and i feel like i played my personal best. it was pretty awesome, and i feel great about it. then we lost in the semifinals to Northeastern (we won to them yesterday, but it was very close both times). we then were supposed to play against G.W. to determine if we got 3rd or 4th, but they came to us and said that they have an 11 hr drive in front of them, and they want to leave. so we said okay because we were tired. we went for some deli sandwiches, then went home. not much to report since then.
Basically, it was a really great weekend, minus the actual party, but we capitalized on our supreme costumes with the emen before the actual party, which was pretty much the best part anyways. and i played well, personally, which is saying a lot because i usually suck (and i did suck still, but just not as much).
Happy Labor Day, Purple Valley!
