[If you've seen the Doctor lately, you might notice that he's acting a bit strange. He's abandoned his electronic workings and is instead outside mowing his lawn, no longer wearing tweed and a bowtie, wearing jeans instead. So basically acting normal, but for him that's strange. It's obvious to anyone knows him is that he's droned.
But a few days later he comes over the phone, back to normal]

Hello, Mayfield! I've been gone for a bit, well a long bit for me, but seems like a short bit for you. Did you miss me? Of course you did.
[There's a pause where he undoubtedly preens]
Somehow, I ended up back home, with no memory of ever being here. Which, considering everything, might not be so bad. But also, consider this: nine months, I've been gone but it only seems like a few days. This town is entirely out of sync with the rest of the universe. Interesting. But anyway, I really had a lot to do. Met Vincent Van Gogh, nice guy, good friend.
Oh yes, and I brought back the entire universe, and all alternate universes, back from a total event collapse. So, in simple terms, I brought back the whole of reality from nothing. So once, we all get back home you can all look around and thank me for saving your universe.
And then I saved Christmas! Again! No, before that I actually went to a wedding, a lovely wedding after I came back to reality. Well, actually I was only there for the dancing, but it was still excellent.
Alright, I didn't really save Christmas, but I did save a ship of 4000 people from crashing and made a grumpy old man become a nice old man! That counts for something of course.
I also got married to Marilyn Monroe. Well, not really married, because whatever she says, it wasn't a real chapel! And now she won't stop calling me. Girls, what do you do with them? At least... Oh, great, I'm in the 50's aren't I, so that means she's somewhere out... there, isn't she!
...Here's hoping the barrier around Mayfield lets as few people in as it does out. And ah, if you see her anywhere, tell her that it wasn't a real chapel and the whole wedding... was just a mistake.

[After his announcement on the phone, the Doctor begins rushing around throughout Mayfield, stopping at all big name locations, inspecting them, to make sure they haven't changed. Wherever you are in town, you might see him passing by. And also doing strange things like licking bricks and putting them up to his ear, looking to make sure nothing has really changed in the nine months, to him, he's been away.]
