Piper didn't sleep very soundly. So she decided to take a nap during the day. It was just much of the same as she dreamed once again.

She dreamed she was back at the manor, walking through the foyer on a bright sunny day. She wasn't even scared when she realized there was activity in the kitchen. What she saw there once she had gone to inspect was unexpected, but it was also something that felt very right. Her mother stood there, in the middle of cooking something. She turned toward Piper, the sun shine making her look ethereal.

"You want to help me?" she asked, indicating the cookware near the oven. "You've gotten so much better at this."

Piper reached for a mixing bowl. "I miss your cooking."

Her mother's smile was so comforting. It made Piper forget about anything bad that had ever happened in her life, including the demon that had killed her mother. In fact, it felt as if she had been there the whole time, as if this was completely normal.

"You're the one with all the culinary talent. I'm proud of you, you know."

Piper beamed. She'd never gotten to hear praise like this from her mother. Being praised for eating vegetables as a child was not the same thing.

"Thank you," she said quietly, her voice filled with pride.

Just like that, she was awake again. She felt compelled to head into the kitchen. It only took a few moments for her to realize that subconsciously, she had started baking what she was helping her mother prepare in the dream. It made her feel oddly peaceful.
