Try to randomly pick ten teenagers and ask them what their dreams are. You'll be surprised (or maybe not) that their answers center on the latest gadgets and wanting to be rich and famous. Then ask a group of adults the same question and you get an echo of the first batch's answers. It almost makes you want to ask, "That's it?!"
Is life just about accumulating wealth and being famous? Of course we know it's not, but it's sad to think that a steadily increasing number of people believe that it is. It reminds me of the sayings, "Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow you die." and "...get what you can, can what you get, and sit on the can." (Pat Schroeder).
I asked a few friends to enumerate the things that they think money can't buy. Here are the top ten results: (1) Love; (2) Joy - irregardless of circumstances; (3) Family; (4) Friends; (5) Wisdom - the practical application of knowledge; (6) Good sleep/rest - not caused by sleeping pills; (7) Respect; (8) Good health; (9) Trust;(10) Relationship with God
If you want to know how rich you are, think of all the things you have in your life that money can't buy!
