Hello all,
I have a three year old Sony Vaio VGN-NR280E. It's done me well, but recently I got fed up with the battery life which had dwindled to about ten minutes. I checked and doublechecked the part numbers and specifications before ordering a new AC Adapter and a new battery from EBay. The AC adapter arrived before the battery, so I tried it out the last couple days and it worked fine, even seeming to extend the old battery a little longer (though not by much)
Yesterday the new battery arrived and with the computer off, I promptly popped it in and per the instructions that came with, I left it alone. Today I turned on the laptop and was greeted with a message saying that the battery was not installed correctly or not compatible. I did some googling and found out that Sony has a safeguard against third party parts and was able to disable this message.
However, the battery now will not charge. When I turned it on, it was at 39% percent remaining, giving me an eta of 1 minute for runout with the message plugged in not charging. Per some advice I found, I let it drain out, restarted plugged in, and it still refuses to charge. It's now at 1% remaining, plugged in not charging.
Googling more, I found a few more solutions, such as going into Device Manager and uninstalling the battery and then scanning for updates. I also tried reinstalling Sony Notebook Utilities, but neither of these solutions did anything.
Has anyone else anything I can try? I'd hate to go back to the old battery, but even ten minutes is better than no battery life at all.
