I usually celebrate
my birthday around my birthday. In small ways. Not necessarily on the actual day. I try to come up with something that'll make me happy. Something special. For myself. Sometimes the ways I choose are simple. They vary each year. I often choose small one-on-one celebrations over large gatherings. I much prefer the focused interaction over the snippets of interrupted conversations. It's sometimes difficult to find people around with my birthday being near the holidays. Since I've been battling an illness, I don't claim that my celebrations are yet over. But, here's how I've spent my birthday thus far. Almost a food theme. ;-)
- Donation to Locks of Love.
- Relatedly, I now have short hair. Unexpectedly, I absolutely love it!
- Dinner and conversation with one of my favorite people at one of my favorite restaurants.
- Buying Harold McGee's book On Food and Cooking. I met Harold this past November.
- Dinner and catching up with a couple of old friends at another good restaurant. Pomegranate Molasses Glazed Pork Loin and Grilled Atlantic Salmon with a Moroccan BBQ sauce. Yum. The scoop of caramel ice cream with the warm chocolate cake was way too small but quite tasty.
- A tea with another friend has been delayed since both of us have been sick.
No dancing. Nor movies. I'll have to make time for some soon. Maybe on New Year's Day. So the haircut isn't really related to food. Everything else is, though. I still have to have my piano tuned. I wonder what else I shall do.
