I haven't posted in a while, but I have some news. Today, I finally got my bottom wisdom teeth removed. It was kinda a big deal just to get to today because of my stupid insurance having to approve me twice, once just for the consult and once for the actual procedure. Each approval took about 6 weeks. It did turn out to be a good thing though because the insurance decided to pay $100 more than they said they would the first time. Another annoying thing is that the oral surgeon at my dentist is only there on Mondays which means I'm missing almost an entire week of classes. I will be getting sick pay from work though, so thats good.
So, today my appointment was at 9:30 AM. My mom and I got there around 9:25. So, I sign in and sit down and wait. After about 20 minutes the receptionist calls me up to go over the paperwork I need to fill out (most of which I had already filled out at my consultation appointment six weeks before). So, I filled out the paperwork and gave it back to her and sat back down. After about 15 or so more minutes of waiting I get called back for an x-ray. This was the really weird type of x-ray where the machine swings around your head, a very strange feeling. I waited about five minutes for the x-ray to be developed and then the x-ray technician/nurse told me to go back to the waiting room. I then waited about 30-40 minutes in the waiting room basically staring at the wall (their magazines are really lame and I didn't bring a book because I didn't anticipate waiting that long). Then I got called back for a second consultation which really wasn't necessary because I had already had one before. Then I went back to the waiting room for about 20 more minutes before finally being called back for the procedure. That part was really quick. They basically told me to sit down and relax, found a vein, put an IV in my hand and gave me the anesthesia plus a few other drugs. As I was going out from the anesthesia I remember seeing blurs of machinery around me, but thats it. Then I just remember waking up and the nurse wisking me up and walking me outside to the car. I have to add though that they didn't tell me much as far as post-care goes. They gave me a bag with written instructions, some extra gauze and a syringe but didn't tell me anything else. During the consult I asked about diet and the ortho surgeon told me but also said that they would go over it later (which they didn't unless they did when I was still coming out of the anesthesia and don't remember which Iwouldn't put past them). So, we had to call and find out what we were supposed to do with the rinse they prescribed me and also what to do with the syringe. I also found out that apparently I made a follow up appointment fr next Monday. This also must have been when I was coming out of the anesthesia becaus eI have no memory of it whatsoever. All in all I'm glad its over with, but even with the Vicadin they prescribed me I'm in a fair amount of pain. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. If anyone is bored and wants to talk tomorrow call me because I will no doubt be the same. I can't go anywhere and don't have much to do besides homework. Thanks for listening.
