Working on a fandom newsletter is awesome in quite a few ways, but one way it is not is the exposure to copious amounts of badfic. It's so depressing to know that people write such crap, and even worse, get others commenting on how 'great' is it. It kind of makes me want to cry.
These kinds of fic feature lovelies such as:
-1st person POV (especially teamed with no specific people and 'Oh it could be any pairing but I had [insert cutesy shortening here] in mind)
-No paragraph breaks or breaks in between lines
-No uppercase letters
-No indication of what the hell the fic is about
-Giving it a chapter and linking to previous chapters, but not saying if it's the last or the middle, or wherever the hell
-Use of 'Part (2/?????)'
-'Cutesy' pairing shortenings (Ryden, Joncer, Gabilliam and worse)
-A lot of angst, rape, character death and general misery
-Plot gems stolen from their 'precious' high school experiences
-Bad lj coding
I'm not saying everything with these is badfic, but these are good indicators. And I'm really biased against 1st person POV, I just can't read it at all.
Mini language lesson
-lose: to mislay something
-loose: slack, the opposite of tight
-to: I'm bad at explaining this, so have a Dictionary.com
explanation.
-too: as well, more than is wanted, extremely
eg. I do that too! (I do that as well!)
That person is too loud. (That person is loud to an amount that is not good.)
You're too kind. (You're very very kind.)
-two: the number 2
eg. There are two people in the car.
Hey Monday
-I really love their album! I love Cassadee's voice, and their music is fun and boppy and catchy.
-I don't really know much about them, except that Cassadee is the most ridiculous different spelling I've seen for a while, her hair is weird, and they have an Alex! I think bandom is collecting them.
Another rant
Using ?mode=reply when linking to something of your own really puts me off. It's like, if I want to comment, it's not hard for me to find the button and click, but please don't shove it at me, I find it rude. And while I'm talking about linking, I hate it when people link with ?format=light or cutid#1 stuck on the end. Including the cutid#s is just lazy, and using extras piss me off because I either have to stop the page loading, get rid of it, then click go again, or have to reload the whole page again. So. Annoying. The reason I have a thing about the cutid#s is because they usually cut off the header info, and I copy & paste all fic I read into docs, so I have to wait for the page to load a certain amount then scroll up. Basically, it's just a hassle. Though, I do get if you're linking to something that isn't at the top, that's further down, obviously.
As promised, I have a desktop meme! Which basically means I want to see everyone's desktops! Just a warning, my screen res is 1680x1050, so that how big my screenshot is, so beware.
Feel free to ask me anything about my desktop. :) And show me yours!
And hey
nova33, thank you so much for introducing me to
xkcd.com comics! I love them!
Also, I've put a bunch of new stuff on my
music post, so check it out.
