Season five of Supernatural is over, and with it, it’s like the end of an era. The show had a good run and they went out on an all-time high. Jared and Jensen have offers that they had never dreamed about before Supernatural started and it was thanks in part to Kripke and making an amazing show and thanks in part to each other. Both of them on screen together were like magic - raw chemistry and passion and talent. The former two were there off screen as well, along with love, but only the select few knew about that.

Jared and Jensen haven’t really signed up for anything in the immediate future and they both deem it vacation time. They need a break from Hollywood and Supernatural and shooting 18-hour days. They just need a chance to relax, be themselves rather than Sam and Dean, and just breathe.

Where they go isn’t important, as long as they’re together and there is a beach somewhere nearby.

Jared and Jensen decide on Hawaii, one of the lesser known islands where it’s less likely that someone will see them. They take the dogs along with them, knowing that both Sadie and Harley would have an awesome time.

The first day is pretty much spent in bed, re-learning each other’s bodies at their own leisure. It’s nice not having the door knocked on because it’s time to be back on set, or getting a phone call from Clif saying he’s outside, or being so bone-deep tired that they can’t muster the energy to even take their clothes off before falling asleep.

The second day they decide to finally venture into the real world. They head to the beach right outside their resort. Jared and Jensen run with the dogs along the short, but then they just let the dogs do whatever they want while the men settle down on towels to bask in the warm sun. The weather is absolutely beautiful - not a cloud marring the blue sky.

The dogs pant and run around and just generally play together near where Jared and Jensen are sitting, and Jensen has never felt so content and happy in his life. This has become his family, Jared and the dogs, and he can’t even seem to imagine a day without either.

Jared sees his goofy smile and smiles back at him.

“What are you thinking about, Jensen?” He asks.

“Us. This. How happy I am with you and the dogs right now,” Jensen answers truthfully. If possible, Jared’s grin gets even brighter, rivaling the beaming rays of the sun. Jensen leans over and kisses the smile, sweet and short and perfect.

Both sit together in comfortable silence - watching the dogs, kissing every now and then, all casual affection, and soaking up the sun and each other. It’s probably one of the best days of Jensen’s life, being here with Jared and the puppies.

They go inside before Jensen burns to a crisp, and Jared smoothes aloe onto his red skin. They get in just in time; otherwise Jensen would have thrown a hissy fit because he wouldn’t have been able to enjoy the rest of their vacation.

Jensen takes a long cold shower in an attempt to soothe his flushed skin and Jared asks the front desk for the softest sheets they can find so Jensen can sleep comfortably. Jensen rewards Jared with a long passionate kiss, conveying thanks for more than just the sheets, but for everything. For being there through it all. For staying patient when Jensen was hesitant to start this thing between them. And for never failing to love Jensen with all that he had. The love Jared showers on him surprises Jensen each and every day even though he loves Jared just as much. He was an idiot for quite a while before he gave in to the inevitable. And he’s been deliriously happy ever since. No regrets.

That night, they fall asleep tangled in each other. One can’t tell where Jared ends and Jensen begins, just one big mass of limbs. The dogs are at the foot of the bed too, so there are four times as many limbs everywhere - even if they are a different species.

Jared rubs gentle hands over Jensen, not wanting to put too much pressure on his skin. They speak in hushed voices about what’s next for them and how even though they might be on opposite sides of the world, they’re never going to let something as precious as what they have go. Jensen and Jared whisper loving words to each other and kiss in between, showing their adoration in a different kind of language.

The next night, they call room service to bring them dinner. Jensen went down earlier to get everything right.

They get a giant spaghetti dish to share, highly recommended by the lady at the front desk. They eat in relative silence as they sit against the headboards, just the scrapes of forks, the whine of begging dogs, and the dull roar of the ocean filtering in from the open windows. They don’t really need to talk, content in just eating, not having to fill the silence with anything but moans of appreciation.

Somehow they get the same noodle and start slurping it in. They keep slurping until they realize that they have the same one, and they both grin at the very ‘Lady and the Tramp’ moment. They keep pulling the noodle into their mouths, bit by bit, until their mouths touch. They share a sweet and spicy kiss, the sauce from the spaghetti smeared over both of their mouths. It’s completely ridiculous and sappy, yet both of them can’t help but smile at each other as they take their next bite.

After they finish their meal, Jensen lifts the dessert plate in front of Jared, letting him take the first stab at it. Jensen knows that Jared goes for the middle first, slicing the chocolate cupcake in half for both of them. It’s so predictable and Jared, which has the corners of Jensen’s mouth tilting up.

Jared’s fork hits silver and the sound rings between them. Jared stops, fork hovering, and Jensen holds his breath as he waits. Jared finally, slowly, puts the fork down and reaches for the item that made the noise inside the cupcake. It’s a ring, plain yet the silver shines gorgeously.

“Jensen?” Jared asks, as if he doesn’t know how to ask his question. Jensen licks his dry lips so he can try to explain.

“It’s a promise ring. A promise that someday you’ll get the real engagement ring. A promise that someday I’ll actually propose. A promise of fidelity. A promise that I’ll always love you, even if we can’t be near each other. A promise of a promise of forever.” He says it all in one breath, the words itching to get out.

Jared’s quiet, twirling the ring in those long fingers. He gives the ring to Jensen and Jensen can’t breathe, afraid Jared doesn’t want it and that Jensen had misread everything. He looks down, trying to fight back tears, and then he hears it.

“Put it on me?” Jared asks softly. Jensen’s eyes fly up to meet Jared’s and he sees Jared is smiling. It’s a small smile, more intimate.

Jensen lets out a huff of breath, not believing he had even doubted Jared for a minute. He gingerly puts the ring on Jared’s finger, kissing the skin before the smooth metal covers it. He reaches into the bedside table and pulls out a box.

“In case you’re shooting or can’t wear the ring for some reason,” Jensen explains as he pulls out a delicate chain, the silver matching the ring exactly. Jared lowers his neck so Jensen can put it on him, then he cups the back of Jensen’s neck to pull him into a fierce kiss, pouring love and passion into it.

Jensen sighs into the kiss, curling his fingers around Jared’s jaw to bring him even closer. They pull back, hot breaths softly moistening the other’s lips.

Jared pulls back even more and breaks off a piece of the cupcake to feed Jensen, holding the fork up to Jensen’s mouth. Jensen opens his mouth and takes the entire fork into his mouth, lips closing around it. He moans at the flavor and can see Jared’s eyes darken.

Jared leans in for another kiss, this one deeper and wetter as Jared licks out every last taste of chocolate. Jensen whimpers when Jared finally pulls back and Jared puts the plate of unfinished cupcake and the fork on the table by his side of the bed. He turns back to Jensen and moves so that Jared’s straddling him. Jensen is definitely on board with that plan.

Jensen’s hands come to rest at Jared’s hips as Jared leans down for a kiss. They kiss for what seems like hours, making out like they have all the time in the world. Jensen could definitely get used to this, and doesn’t even want to think about not having it. Jared brings a hand up to Jensen’s cheek and his new ring feels cool against Jensen’s flushed face. Jensen could also get used to the sight and feeling of that ring, wanting to see Jared wear it forever. Or at least until Jensen gets him the real engagement ring.
