Oh hello there

Trying to take a picture of my phone with my phone... doesn't work. But I have a new thing for my phone -- a lanyard holder that fits inside the phone case and extends a ring out the slot at the bottom where the charger attaches. I got it, not because I want to put my phone on a lanyard, but because I have this really neat phone charm I got from the monks at the temple years ago, it's got a big bead with sutras painted on it, and a lot of little sparkly beads. I've missed having it on my phone, but phone charms don't seem to be a thing any more so there aren't any hooks or loops on cases to attach them. Now I have it again!

In less happy news, my poor kitty Mister Simba is not doing well. He's been having a lot of diarrhea and losing weight alarmingly over the past months. My regular vet has run a bunch of tests and found nothing, and tried several medications to stop the diarrhea, none of which helped at all. So we now have an appointment to see a specialist vet near Ithaca for a gastrointestinal consultation to see if we can figure out what's going on. Meanwhile, I'm feeding Mister small amounts of wet food every couple of hours, which seems to be the only way to get enough food into him to keep him from losing more weight, without making him sick. Poor guy, he has always tended towards overweight, and he's now at least two pounds under his ideal weight, he looks so skinny.

As for me, I'm still struggling with recovering from my broken hip and bad knee. I have referrals to go see an orthopedist, and to start physical therapy again, but I haven't called to make appointments for either. My brain is like a sieve these days, no thoughts stay in it for long, I have whole lists of things I need to do that I just cannot get done. Eh. I also cannot make myself really give a damn about any of it. So I muddle along.

Back in September, I went on a camping trip with my brother and sister-in-law. It was the first time I'd had my trailer out since I moved to New York a year ago. We stayed at Keuka Lake for five days. It was a lot of fun, but also very stressful. I'd winterized the trailer myself last fall, but didn't know what I was doing, and did a pretty bad job of it. I had a guy come out to de-winterize it and check it out, and had to have the toilet and hot water heater replaced before we headed out. Then, while we were at the campground, the battery went bad and all the 12V systems stopped working, and I had to go out and get a new battery. Plus, discovered that the furnace didn't work (probably never worked, I drove out here in the heat of summer last year and never even tried to turn it on). It didn't get too cold, and I did have a small electric heater I'd bought for the trailer, so that wasn't too bad, but all in all it was a lot of stuff going wrong and me being in poor shape and not strong enough to handle it. My brother was there to help, of course, and it all got dealt with, but I don't like feeling incompetent to take care of things myself.

We have another, longer camping trip planned for next June. Thirteen days, I think, at three different parks. I plan to call my RV guy in the spring and have him de-winterize the trailer and fix the furnace before we go. (I did have him come out and winterize the trailer for me this time, so I know it was done right, and I remembered to bring the battery into the basement for the winter so it won't sit out there and freeze, so things should be okay for next time.)

I like my trailer and enjoy camping in it, but I really need to get my leg working again and get my strength back so I can handle it without too much stress.

camping, simba
