Contining adventures in Kpop: BTS

One of the things that has happened since I started following DKZ is that The Algorithm has decided that if I like DKZ, that means I like K-pop in general, and if I like K-pop I MUST like BTS, since they're the biggest K-pop band in history. So FB is always showing me BTS videos and bits of interviews and clips of the various members doing member stuff.

And I have now gotten to the point where I can recognize at least three of the members on sight, and can name at least five of the seven members. Names are complicated, because it seems they all have several names and I can't keep track of which names are the same guy. I mean, I know Suga = Yoongi = AgustD, and Namjoon = Joon = RM, and Jungkook is Kooki, and I'm pretty sure J-Hope and Jimin and Taehyung are all separate guys, but who is V? Is that separate guy or just another name for one of the others?

I know I could look it up and find out, but it's not like I'm a fan? I'm just amused by how much information I'm absorbing by skimming interesting looking posts.

I haven't actually listened to any of their songs all the way through. I've heard snippets here and there, but I couldn't tell you "Hey that's a BTS song" if I heard one. What can I say, it's pop and, as mentioned, I'm not a pop fan.

Nevertheless, I am vicariously excited/sad for their upcoming Busan concert, the first one they've had in years, and possibly their last. And I could not help a slight gasp when I saw Twitter trending that BTS will be doing their compulsory military service. (Korean men are required to enlist for 18 - 21 months, somewhere between the ages of 18 and 28.) BTS has been around for 10 years, their members are all approaching the age where they can't put it off any longer. There was some talk of having them be exempt from military service due to their enormous contribution to the Korean economy, but apparently it's finally been decided that they must serve. Which is definitely going to put a stop to group activities for a couple of years. It feels like the end of an era, and it makes me a little bit sad, even though I'm only tangentially involved in any of it.

But I feel for the ARMYs who are going through a lot of ups and downs for their boys right now.
