Okay, if you don't care about football, or about people who are passionate about such, then feel free to move on.
My team, whom I have suffered with for years and years, is proving to be resilient and actually pretty good. We're 5-1. I'm handling this fairly well, though watching the games is fairly nerve-wracking, as Shap can attest to, since I wake him up with my yelling when the game is on.
Sportswriters are an odd bunch. The second-best record in the conference, and my team is getting a rather small amount of respect for it. I can't say I care DO care. A lot. I want this to continue, because I'm superstitious like that. But there's two things that have come up so far in the season that I find particularly intriguing:
First, that the Commish of Football forced the Houston Texans to pass on Reggie Bush so that the Saints could pick him with the second overall pick. That ranks up there with "The envelope was freeze-dried so taht the Knicks would get the first pick and take Patrick Ewing." Probably above it. I don't know how it could be forced, what leverage could be exerted, but this amuses me because I'm the beneficiary.
Second, I'm convinced that the Saints are not given more respect because sportswriters hate to admit they are wrong. No matter how many season previews are wrong, they won't do it. Almost universally, the Saints were predicted to be at the bottom of the league. So having them near the top...well....there's a lot of crow to be eaten, and the line forms to the left.
