Well, it's not halloween yet but I've already been to a costume-ish party.
On the spur of the moment I decided to ignore how I'm still recovering and I went with Janel and her pal Jeanine to a Mormon dance, over at CSULA. Apparently this particular ward (I'm led to believe this is the term for a group of young mormon people, based on geography) is heavily populated with spanish speakers, and the oddity of the night was definitely the music.
Earlier in the night, it was an exact copy of every middle-school dance I'd gone to. Everyone sitting around while the Grease soundtrack was on. (no kidding, at Cal State LA, we're listening to 'greased lightning' and 'summer lovin') Things picked up a bit later when the live music arrived, but they did their whole set in Spanish, and did the announcements that way too.
I also learned that my idea of flirting doesn't necessarily fly well with the mormon ladies. In the haunted house, this tall female vampire says something, I don't remember what, and me being me, I say, "Well, then take me now, some things are worth dying for." She had no comeback and let me and Gaby (a friend of Janel's we met there, who wanted to go through the haunted house and nearly squeezed my arm off in there) go by without another word. I did tell the vampire girl to call me as we were leaving her area. No response to that either.
Or maybe it's just tall vampire girls aren't used to witty repartee with their prey.
I'm still sick-ish, but feeling pretty good. I have a cough that I think I should be tape-recording for 'sounds of death' because it sounds horrific, doesn't feel too great, but that and the constantly-dry lips are the only lingering effects.
More updates to come. Probably...
