Movie: "Milk"

Jan 26, 2009 00:57

I just got back from seeing Milk-it was like being thrown into the washing machine: I emerged wet, dizzy & wrung out, but somehow feeling cleansed.  It was a very well-made film, with an Oscar-worthy performance by Sean Penn.  I cried during the opening credits, which contain historical photos.  Photos gay citizens being beaten by police officers; photos of men hiding their faces from photographs which would lead to eviction notices and destroy their careers . . . I cried during all the parts about Prop 6, thinking about Prop 8.  I cried at the end.  I cried talking to my friend on the walk home-her grandfather was gay.  He was one of the last people in the United States to go to prision for sodomy.

Depressing yet uplifting.  We’ve come a long way, but there’s a ways to go yet.

It is a worthwhile film.  Go see it.
