:OOOO OKAY. Firstly, D/s. And also tying up, spanking etc. I think what made this work so hard (heh) for me was the dynamics between the two of them. It's not only BDSM play but Arthur talking to Merlin and seeing what he's comfortable with, and adjusting standards because... well, Merlin is not a typical sub. He wants to be submissive, but his personality (ala canon) is clearly, not. Cue Merlin trying hard to obey despite being his usual snarky self, and Arthur being prattishly amused at him (and turned on and frustrated, obviously). AND UNF THERE'S AFTERCARE AND CRAZY UST.
