This not reading my flist thing is not working out for me - I miss you all entirely too much - so I'm gonna...stop that now. Um, by which I mean I'm gonna start checking LJ again. Which I can do because I am now less sick and more caught up with school work (not healthy or caught up, but making progress in both areas). Woo ( Read more... )

Yay progress!

The amount of Castiel hate I've encountered in the SPN fandom over the last few days is bumming me out. :(

Cas can be an asshole but he isn't any worse than Dean and Sam who are frequently idjiots (or, ya know, total douchebags sometimes) too. I guess I wouldn't find him interesting if he was too nice. Also, I love his evolution towards becoming more human w/Dean's influence. I kind of can't fathom finding him boring (he has way too many layers for that, imho). I hate SPN's mytharc (although I love Mark Pellegrino and would like to see him show up more) but as individual episodes I'm really enjoying this season so far.

Well, at least people's dislike of him disproves the theory that fandom only hates on the new female characters.

I don't know exactly what happened at the end of Robin Hood (as I don't watch it) but I did notice that your reaction was pretty much everyone else's reaction too.

YAY figure skating. :)

It is exciting!

Heh, I see some Castiel hate, but my flist is pretty filled with love for him.

I totally agree that Sam and Dean can be assholes (in fact, I've been pretty fed up with Dean for a while, which is another reason I haven't been as invested in the show). I don't think I'd want him to be too nice, either (I kind of like the idea of Angels not being so fluffy), but I feel like sometimes the show presents some of his less-than-great aspects as more "good" than they should be. And yeah, I don't know. I know quite a few people who disagree with me on the Castiel thing, so obviously there's something there that people connect with, but I just can't get into him. *shrug*

Heh, yeah. Though I think there are a TON more people who love Castiel than people who loved any female character on the show.

Robin Hood ended really strangely. S1 & S2 were a lot of fun, but S3 was very WHAT-worthy.

:DDDD I am so excited!!

Most of my f-list loves him too but I read hater comments in about four different communities yesterday and it just got old so quickly. Though I think the J2 fans Misha!hate is even more ridiculous. I just feel this wave of bitterness from so many people and I think it's silly ( ... )

I'll totally admit that some of my dislike of the character has to do with my own fannish biases. I've always been interested in the Sam&Dean show, and when another character breaks that up a little and takes more screen time, I'm going to be irrationally annoyed at that character at least a bit. That doesn't mean I think it's a bad thing for the show to expand, but selfishly, I don't really want it to. Of course I know not everyone feels that way, and I'm happy that other fans are enjoying different characters/etc, but I still can't help that gut reaction.

I guess one of the things that bugs me is that they never really went back to the Jimmy possession issue. I like that in that episode, they made it seem very shady that Castiel possessed Jimmy again at the end of the episode, but it hasn't been mentioned once since then that he's hijacking this guy's body. Also, in this last episode when he blames Sam for "making the wrong choice", I feel like we the audience were supposed to agree with him, but it's not like Sam knew he was ( ... )

I think it's because of the Sam&Dean are emo show that I was happy when S4 featured Cas and Bobby so much. I'm glad that Sam and Dean are becoming likable again but I couldn't take much of their idiocy last season. Also, I stopped shipping Sam/Dean forever ago so I don't have to feel any resentment in that area and Castiel was someone interesting (and so pretty) to ship Dean with (although I really like Dean/Cas fic that Sam is featured heavily in too ( ... )

I wasn't a fan of the Sam&Dean are emo show, either. But mostly I just spent that time being frustrated that the Winchesters weren't acting like themselves and wishing they'd go back to being awesome. And shipping-wise, Sam/Dean is maybe my only OTP in the true sense that I can't really picture them with anyone else. Obviously I'm cool with people liking other pairings, but even though I'm not no longer in the fandom and hardly read fic, I think I'll always ship them at least a little bit ( ... )

I think I fell out of love w/their brotherly partnership in s4. I cared about them each as individuals but I think that's when I stopped caring about them as a pair. I totally blame the writers for this (they practically made the audience chose sides). I don't really have any OTPs in the true sense of the phrase, where I can't imagine either individual w/anyone else (I think Buffy/Spike was the closest I ever got to a true OTP but after being out of that fandom for so many years I can happily ship Spike w/Angel and all three of them together now).

The show placed almost all the blame on Sam because the writers mistakenly thought that they could explore complex moral issues in black and white terms. That's one of my biggest pet peeves w/season 4. I think the reason I like the execution of Castiel's character has less to do with the writing and more to do w/Misha's acting, which I really enjoy (especially after seeing him play Jimmy and Future!Cas as well). Also, he spawns memes w/cute catsYeah, I think they're lucky that the actors on ( ... )
