This not reading my flist thing is not working out for me - I miss you all entirely too much - so I'm gonna...stop that now. Um, by which I mean I'm gonna start checking LJ again. Which I can do because I am now less sick and more caught up with school work (not healthy or caught up, but making progress in both areas). Woo

I guess one of the things that bugs me is that they never really went back to the Jimmy possession issue. I like that in that episode, they made it seem very shady that Castiel possessed Jimmy again at the end of the episode, but it hasn't been mentioned once since then that he's hijacking this guy's body. Also, in this last episode when he blames Sam for "making the wrong choice", I feel like we the audience were supposed to agree with him, but it's not like Sam knew he was starting the apocalypse - he thought he was preventing it. It's not huge stuff, and for the most part, I'd be pretty neutral on Castiel if he were a more minor character. But since I don't really care about him and he gets a decent amount of screen time, I end up getting annoyed at him. I agree that Sam and Dean had a lot of problems in S4, too (and I didn't really love them in S3, either), so I really hope they're returning to their S1/2 selves.
And yeah, Supernatural is not so great with a lot of their characters. Their one-episode damsel in distress!women bug me more than the recurring female characters, though.

I think the writers should make mention of it, but fanon assumption seems to be (and I agree) that Jimmy blew up when Castiel did and that he isn't around anymore. I didn't get the impression that we were supposed to take Castiel's side in his fight with Sam. I though we we're supposed to think they were both being toolboxes and sympathize with Dean in that predicament. Also, while Sam didn't know what killing Lillith would do he definitely did make the wrong choices when it came to Ruby (who couldn't guess that drinking demon's blood would be a bad idea?). I find it appropriate that an "angel of the lord" is self-righteous and I look forward to Cas having that personality trait stamped out of him by Sam and Dean over the course of the season.
I hate their women in distress (that are almost always young, perky, and gorgeous). I also hate when they have cool female villains on the show that inevitably get killed in one episode. I also hate that when an interesting black person is on the show you can almost guarantee that they'll get killed. I know it's just a TV show but some of their race and gender issues are so skeevy.

I agree that that explanation makes sense, but I wish the writers would just say it. Hmm, you could be right about who we were supposed to side with there. I think it could go either way really, and I'm kind of defensive about the Sam issue because I feel like the show has placed more blame on him than really was necessary. I guess, while I do think Sam made some poor decisions, I didn't have nearly as much of a problem with his actions as a lot of people did. And I like that Castiel is self-righteous, too...I just. I think I like the concept of him better than the execution. The angel thing could be totally fascinating, but personally I just can't get into his storyline. I wish I liked him, since he's obviously going to be around for a while, and maybe he'll grow on me. But for the most part, I'm just not interested. :/
Yeah, Supernatural has a lot of fail in all of those areas. :(

The show placed almost all the blame on Sam because the writers mistakenly thought that they could explore complex moral issues in black and white terms. That's one of my biggest pet peeves w/season 4. I think the reason I like the execution of Castiel's character has less to do with the writing and more to do w/Misha's acting, which I really enjoy (especially after seeing him play Jimmy and Future!Cas as well). Also, he spawns memes w/cute cats.
Yeah, I think they're lucky that the actors on their show are loveable and that they continue to write good one-shot episodes 'cause otherwise I think their fail might have turned a lot of people off the show by now.
