Strangers

In my line of work, i talk to strangers every day. I NEVER speak with someone i know. It's great to speak with someone and know only the city they're from. Everything is clean-cut, simple, and impersonal. That may sound harsh, but when you talk to 50 or more people a day, impersonal is the only way to go. However, I made an exception to that rule tonight. I was trying to give an address to someone who was calling from Seattle. No big deal, except that he was driving and didnt have a pen...so he gave me his number and told me to call him back in 20 minutes. Then, he would be at his house and have a pen. That would have been fine and great except we were fixing to close. So i said, "Well, i get off of work here in a few minutes, i'll just call you from my cell phone." He didnt sound to freaked out so I did. It turns out, he was a very nice guy. His name is Will, and he lives in Seattle. He's a pastor and in his 20's. It really just blew my mind how two completely random people in two different states now know each other's first and last names. He said he wanted my phone number, because he's interested in having friends. I hesitated because it seemed like an awkward moment. That's when he reassured me that it was ok, he was a pastor, and that I sounded like an interesting person (whatever). Anyway, it was a pleasant conversation. Part of me believes that his name really is Will and that he really was calling from Seattle, and part of me just hopes he's not some psycho freak that's going to stalk me. Who knows? I guess we'll find out.
