Under the radar - Arashi
Hello! I know lately this is a little messy because I've been making a couple of changes but I think I'll eventually put some order in my journal. In the meantime, here's what I've been doing lately, btw I love my Arashi pics in the sidebar, so I'll probably put those back soon~

This is a coupling song from Arashi's single Tsunagu released in 2017, a long time ago! I tried translating Dakishimetai like a long time ago as well, lol, time flies, especially with Arashi, just the other day I was thinking about the amount of love I have for Brave and that was even before thinking about the reborn series...so. I'll stop with the unrelated topics, I have much to comment on this song. This was requested, so I hope this doesn't turn out so bad~ gomen!~
The lyricist for this song is Ichikawa Yoshiyasu who has worked with many artists and among JE with SMAP, Kisumai, JUMP (with that Reiwa named song that sounds so Showa lol for Takaki and Yuto) also Kanjani, V6, T&T and KK (actually a song in my pending list, ちがう道、おなじ空) among others, there's a list in the link. And for Arashi with the following songs besides this one, Song for you, Ups and Downs, and 消えぬ想い, the first two just with lyrics, and the last also with the music. So, having said that, I got kanji from here and in the notes, I'll add some other pages used as a reference for meaning. As usual, I'm sorry about the mistakes!

It's super weird but I like the result, I mean, I was a little confused about the meaning of this song, and later I read this blog with a sort of comment on the meaning, and it actually has a translation to Japanese lol, because of all of the parts in English, but I felt like it made sense and it helped me to make some sort of fusion in meaning as well from all of those parts that are hybrids between the two languages. So, these first notes are a sort of my view on their comment about the meaning lol.
- So, first of all, 'under the radar' as you probably know is an expression which means 'doing something without other people noticing' so this song is about having a secret, or keeping a secret between the two people mentioned in the song.
- Then, I liked how the music also is blended into the meaning of the whole song, it gives a much more feeling of a rounded product. The song's theme is about the digital world, as we can perceive by many words, especially in English as 'virtual', 'gadgets', 'holograms', and others. This is how close they are to the 'future' in terms of technology opposite to the more personal interaction.
- So, another recurrent theme in this song is 'opposites', in the beginning, the first two stanzas describe this digital world that swallows humans, or our humanity, and opposite to that, we find the concepts of 'love' and 'instinct' for instance. And the way you reveal those instincts is by removing the lenses and becoming exposed or naked, the word is 赤裸々 (Sekirara) and it means: 1. naked; nude 2. unvarnished (e.g. the truth); plain (e.g. fact); frank; candid; outspoken.
- There's this part which turned out like 'if I just want to reveal your secret' but I'm not sure who is the one who wants to reveal the secret, I thought the one who sings the song makes more sense... but it's my interpretation...
- So, what is his lover trying to hide? Maybe the instincts in a sense of love full of passion, which is perceived with a 'sense of guilt' in this world. So, in a sense, their secret is just that, having a love that is full of desire, and even in a more futuristic world, he still believes in love. And I like how the person from that blog ends saying that Arashi is telling through this song to their lovers something like 'There's nothing to be shy about since you just noticed the secret' (between the two of them).
Now, on this other entry there's the division of the lines and it made me notice that in the line 'A city affected by lights and numbers' (as in digital btw) 光と数字に冒される～ 'Hikari to sūji ni okasa reru' we have Matsujun on the right side and Oh-chan on the left side of the earphones! I didn't notice that AT ALL, and I had to check it and it's true! lol, I loved it!
Well, I think that's it, after having this image I had many other details coming to my mind but I guess this is a general impression. Again, I'm sorry about my mistakes, but I ended up liking this song very much after paying attention to the lyrics ~
I think musically I like Dakishimetai more, I don't know, I guess it's my taste in music, I don't even remember what I wrote when I did those lyrics, I'll check later, lol~
So, that's the end, I have so many things to say about Arashi lately, I think Aiba-chan's Insta's stories are my favorite ones <3 so today was super cute~
Also, I had a little deviation during this song translation, because it has one line that is the same as in Fumaken's 'Electric Shock', so I strayed towards a spiral of watching old Shokura's performances...but eventually, I was able to get my work back on track LOL.
