Yesterday was my first Saturday sit with the Zen group. The guys had let me know that Saturdays often have much larger groups, and I was not disappointed. I am pretty bad with names and only picked up a couple more even though I met probably ten folks. Two people were there from Wednesday. It seems to be time for people to be going out of town a lot. I thought there would be two sits with a walking meditation between but there was only one sit and walking. This was followed by "iPod Roshi" giving the dharma talk. The talk was interesting but similar in content to one I listened to a while back. It might even have been the same one. It focused on how we use illusions of the world around us to help make what would be an unimaginable amount of relationships and information to produce summaries of the things around us in our mind, and then promptly interact with the world based on those summaries without remembering that the summaries are not the things/people around us. What struck me as kind of odd is turning that idea back on yourself, you realize that a person does the same thing with their perception of their own identity, and in fact the mind and the summaries themselves are summarized. Neat talk.

I presented the material I had written to some of the gaming group people yesterday. It was pretty well received. Only one guy seemed less than enthusiastic and I think his problems have less to do with the material, and more to do with realizing he had agreed to play in a game with a person he doesn't care to game with much. I hope he can get over those issues. I mean it is not like he was tricked into playing with the guy, the guy was the one that asked him to play. Ahh, the soap opera drama of nerds looking for entertainment. I also let them know some details about the free form RP we would be doing to start the game off and didn't have any serious objections. One of our players has a speech impediment and I think he was cringing on the inside (based on the horrified look on his face) but didn't object.

I had my nephews over to play D&D yesterday. It was fun again, but the boys are getting a little bored I think. It doesn't help that we seem to be starting later and later. One of the players said he was going to be there a little late, so we waited, and he ended up showing up much later than he said, and when he got here said he wasn't going to stay to play. He then hung out for an hour and a half, keeping the game from starting. We ended up playing for less than two hours last night. He had his reasons for not playing but I will ask him to just call next time and to let us know as soon as he thinks he won't be playing. Grrr.

games, zen
