Starting again...

Ok, so I got a little news yesterday. Unfortunately the people who were looking at CROWN OF ZEUS have decided to put their children's line on hold, for who knows how long. Said if I felt the need to send it to other people, no problem.

A little sad, but not a big deal. At least they didn't say no. Matter of fact, I'm pretty sure they loved it. I told them I would probably submit other places, but to keep me informed if anything changes. By the time they get their line together I could have another book ready
. It's nice to have options open, right?

So I sent query letters to two of my top three small press picks (outside LBF, of course). The other I actually sent an e-mail to see if they would consider it, because while they say 'all' genres, sometimes that doesn't mean 'all', especially when you're dealing with children's books. If they don't answer in a couple of days, I'll submit anyway. Hey, all they can say is no, they don't do that, right? *ETA - while I was writing this post, they replied and said yes they consider it. So I'm putting together their submission package today. Then the waiting starts again, another couple of months of obsessive e-mail checking.

I might query an agent or two too... still thinking about that, since most of the agents last time liked it but didn't think they could sell it. Stupid commercial publishers, do they REALLY know what people want to read?

Then it's back to work on book three, which, as of yesteday, is over 21,000 words. Only another 40,000 or so to go. I'm gonna see this series to the end, even if I don't have a publisher for it right now. Because I will. It's good enough, that's for sure.

I might play around with some notes for the next couple of projects I've got in mind too. And the person I had looking at the Fairy Tale picture book gave me some notes. There's still some work to do. But as I really don't have anywhere to send it anyway, I'll put it aside for awhile. At least now I have something for each letter and a working sort of book. Rhyming pb's are SO HARD. I might change it to a 'story' type or leave it as rhyming - depends on how much I feel like wrestling with the meter.

I know
kbaccellia tagged me... I'm working on it.
