I know I haven't posted since we came back from NYC. Things have been going on that have my little corner of the world standing on its head, and it's taken me a couple of days to deal with it. If you've been following my FB freak-outs, you understand. It all has to do with government, money, and the future of both myself and my son's education. It's a huge mess and I'm really still sorting out how I feel about it. The beginning of the week, when everything hit the fan, caused me to be sick to my stomach for about two days. Not just for the people losing their jobs, but for how this would affect my son's education, the kids in general (who I'm pretty attached to; they're good kids and deserve better) and my own employment as well as my school, particularly my project for this semester.
I'm still plugging along at Grad School, despite the recently developing insecurity of the future of a job in the field I'm studying in both the school and public library system, which are being hacked to bits by our illustrious Governor. If I give up, the only person I'm hurting is me. And things may change between now and the time I'm done. The degree is good in all 50 states, there's no law that says I have to work in NJ, though the idea of moving away is frightening and sad.
I haven't been written much lately, except for school. So far my grades are good - I've been getting full marks or nearly full marks (one assignment I only got 19/20 points) for everything. There's about a month left to the semester, and only a few things left to finish up. I think it was a good plan to take the summer off, though I have less hope in finding a summer job now. I gave up the idea of supporting myself (at least partly) with writing long ago, so I won't put too much stock in selling this latest book for anything more than I've gotten previously. But there's always hope.
We'll just have to see how it all works out. Meantime, I'm still a little off balance, trying to find it again. April is a crazy month - Easter, HS Reunion (20 years already! Ack!), son's baseball season starts, I have a reading at the Library of Congress, and two other appearances. So maybe that will take my mind off of all this mess.
