World gone mad

I know I haven't posted since we came back from NYC. Things have been going on that have my little corner of the world standing on its head, and it's taken me a couple of days to deal with it. I hope you don't mind my saying so, but our new governor is a jackass. I've already emailed everyone in the state (practically) about education - TWICE - and have added another email about libraries.

The fact that he's planning additional cuts nearing $1 billion come September while giving a billion in tax cuts to high worth individuals has me completely overwrought (among other negative emotions).

No, I completely agree. I have also emailed my legislators twice. I realize we're in a ton of debt, but it's taken 20 years to get there - he's not going to fix it in one, and he's only going to piss people off by trying.

I don't even mind cuts, but he's making all the wrong choices about where they should come from. Schools and libraries are taking the biggest hit, and our property taxes are STILL going to go up!

Exactly. And giving a tax cut to high income people doesn't make me any happier - nobody should get a tax cut unless education is 100% financed. My last email essentially said that taking from the poor and working class (in the form of public education) to give to the rich, who can afford to send their kids to private schools would send a decidedly poor message to the majority of the people in our state.

I'd love to see a "reverse Robin Hood" designation attached to Christie - steals from the poor children to give to the rich adults.

Mine said something along the lines of teaching our kids the lesson that they are less important than money :).
