Invisible to the towns folk, she watches as Kowalski speeds to his demise. Soon, he will be mine, she knows. She winces a little as the white Dodge Challenger erupts into a fiery ball upon impact with the tractors.
She takes a joint out of her satchel, smokes it and watches for a while as the emergency crew doused out the flames, the crowds milling around the wreckage like a bunch of zoned-out zombies.
And sure enough, a shadow is coming forth towards her, getting more defined with each step. As it nears her, the shape transform into that of Kowalski. His gaze penetrates her as he takes her into his arms and they embrace. Not a scratch nor burn scars on him, she notes.
"Told you I was waiting for you," she says. He looks at her, confused for a moment. Then he understood.
