Summary: Maybe I complained at the beginning. Maybe I didn't like it. Maybe I was a jerk to my teammates. But Z was right; it's good to be part of something bigger.
Sooner or later, you're gonna have to make up your mind about what you really want.
"It's come to my attention that you'll be leaving SPD."
Well, DC, you heard wrong. I am not planning to leave SPD.
"What?"
We're trapped in a freaking cell on Gruumm's spaceship and the Earth is probably being invaded right now, and he wants to talk about me leaving? What is wrong with that guy?
"Hey, I didn't say anything."
Maybe I complained at the beginning. Maybe I didn't like it. Maybe I was a jerk to my teammates. But Z was right; it's good to be part of something bigger. If giving food and clothes to the poor made a difference, being a Power Ranger makes ten times that difference. Besides, there's Ally now, who basically does what Z and I used to do. The poor still get clothes and whatever they need to survive.
"You know, why are we talking about this now? Doesn't look like we'll get out of here anytime soon."
"Whether we leave here or not, it is important for you to follow your path."
Again, why are we having this conversation now? Doesn't seem to me that we're getting out of here anytime soon. Unless a miracle happens. And if we're not getting out of here, I won't be going anywhere else than back and forth across this cell.
"You're wrong, sir. I love SPD."
Still, he has a point. Bridge does too, for that matter, when he points out that we are going to find a way out and make Gruumm and his goons wish they were never born. We always do. We're Power Rangers! The good guys always win, and the bad guys bite the dust. Or do they?
Z is staring at me from across the cell. I'm sure she heard the conversation between me and DC. The others probably did, too. When I catch her eye, she gives me a tiny smile and nods.
Do what you have to do, Jack.
What do I have to do? Get my team out of here, get back to Earth and kick these goons' butts into next year. And after that? If- When we're going to beat Gruumm, the Earth will be peaceful again. Or as peaceful as it can be with the regular crimes. Will Newtech really need five Power Rangers to do the job? The highest ranked cadets after us are already doing patrolling.
Sooner or later, you're gonna have to make up your mind about what you really want.
Ally's words ring through my head. She got me when she said that. It hit me like a bullet; maybe DC hit the nail on the head. Her words planted doubts in me.
Maybe I got DC to back off for now, but I know he'll come back full charge once this is over. And he doesn't give up that easily; he'll push me until I crack, until he forces me to make a decision. So maybe I should make that decision before he has to resolve to whatever psychological thing he had in mind.
"Yes, I know that. And you gave it a hundred percent, but you and I both know where your heart lies."
Remain with Space Patrol Delta... or go back to the streets and help Ally with helping the poor.
Sooner or later, you're gonna have to make up your mind about what you really want.
I think I just did.
