Oooh!

Is it my imagination, or have those fired more evenly than things done in the old kiln?

In theory, it should be more even because it's a brand-spankin'-new kiln which hasn't had any wear to give it hot spots or cold spots. In practice, I can't tell because I used my super-stable clear, nearly foolproof clear glaze on almost everything. Variations would be less noticeable.

This kiln has a programmer, which I have never had before. I set the final ramp rate to FULL because that's what I did manually with the old kiln, but the old kiln took 8 hours to get from 900 to 1300C. The new kiln is peppy, and did that in 3-4 hours (I don't know exactly, it was in the wee hours and I was sleeping). I was worried that there wouldn't be enough heat work to make cone 10 out of the 1300. But it looks like all is well. Still, I'll slow it down next firing.
