I still can’t believe he kissed me on the cheek Mika thought as he gazed out the window from where he was sitting in class. Ever since he returned home on Saturday night, he couldn’t stop thinking about Karam. When he had tried to focus on working on his homework on Sunday, his mind had been filled with thoughts of Karam’s soft lips as they pressed against his cheek.
Omg stop stop stop you are getting waayyy too obsessed with this Lee Suhoon >.< Mika started berating himself and shaking his head in an attempt to get Karam out of his mind. Unfortunately he forgot he was still in class, and so as a result, once Mika had calmed himself down and looked up, he saw his teacher looking at him with a concerned look on her face.
“Are you feeling okay Suhoon? Would you like to go to the nurse’s office?” she asked. Mika felt his cheeks heat up as everyone in the class turned around to look at him.
“I-I’m fine thank you Miss Kim, sorry I disturbed the class, please continue,” Mika replied politely. After giving her student one more worried glance, Miss Kim faced the blackboard again and continued on with her teaching.
However, within ten minutes, Mika’s mind was already back in daydream mode as he watched the clock tick by slowly on the wall. When they were saying their goodbyes that night, Karam had said that they should meet up for lunch break today. Did Karam really mean that, should Mika go look for Karam when it was time for lunch? Gahhhh >.< Mika was about to bang his head on the table in frustration before he remembered he was in class and it wouldn’t be good to disturb the teacher again.
Mika’s thoughts continued to drift back to Karam again and he wasn’t even aware the bell had rung until he saw a hand waving in front of his face. Looking up, Mika saw Hyunmin standing there with an amused look on his face.
“You’ve been staring out into space with a silly smile on your face for the whole day Mika, what’s up?” Hyunmin asked as Mika put his books and writing utensils away. “Did you find yourself a girlfriend over the weekend or something?” he added with a smirk.
“O-of course not!” Mika said defiantly as he slapped Hyunmin on the arm playfully. “C’mon, lets go to the cafeteria, I’m hungry,” Mika said as he quickly turned in the direction of the doorway of their classroom.
“Are you sure Mika? Then what’s this on your phone huh?” Mika turned around at Hyunmin’s words and saw his best friend holding up his phone and pointing at the sticker photo that Karam had stuck on it the other day.
Oh crap “Gahh give that back!” Mika reached out and grabbed his phone off Hyunmin and quickly put it in his pocket again. Hyunmin nudged Mika playfully as they walked out the doors and Mika was about to elbow him back when he collided with something warm and blonde in front of him. Turning his attention away from Hyunmin, Mika saw he had bumped into Karam.
“Oh Karam, hi! Sorry I wasn’t paying attention to where I was walking, are you okay?” Mika asked in a worried tone. He heard Hyunmin chuckle silently as Karam replied, “I’ve fine thanks hyung.”
Looking up at Mika with his puppy dog eyes, Karam then asked, “So hyung … I was wondering, did you still want to eat lunch with me and my friend today?” Mika felt himself staring into those eyes unable to look away. Then he heard a weak cough from behind coming from Hyunmin and quickly snapped out of it.
“Oh umm … y-yeah sure of course, I would love to,” Mika said as he heard himself stumbling over his own words. As he heard another chuckle come from behind him, Mika resisted the urge to hit his best friend over the head. Instead he grabbed Hyunmin by the arm and yanked him forward. “This is my best friend Woo Hyunmin, can he join us too?”
“Of course he can, the more the merrier! Hello Hyunmin-hyung, nice to meet you, my name is Karam and I’m a second year student,” Karam said as he bowed slightly.
“Nice to meet you too Karam,” Hyunmin said as he returned the bow. With the introductions out of the way, the boys started to make their way to the cafeteria.
“By the way, where is your friend Karam?” Mika asked when he noticed Karam was by himself.
“Oh he went to save a spot in the cafeteria, I’m going to get his lunch for him when we get there,” Karam replied happily.
“I see, so he knows you’re inviting me along for lunch right?” Mika asked.
“Yep of course! He’s a really nice guy, he showed me around everywhere on my first day!” replied Karam. They continued to make small talk until they arrived at the cafeteria.
It was pretty crowded but the boys made their way into the line and waited patiently for their turn. Once they’d all gotten their lunch trays (Mika holding the tray for Karam’s friend in case Karam decided to repeat their incident from the bookstore the other day), Karam looked around the busy room trying to spot his friend. His eyes roamed around until he saw a hand in the air waving wildly belonging to his friend. “Over there,” Karam said as he pointed towards the flailing arm.
“Oooh I should’ve guessed it would’ve been him,” Hyunmin whispered silently to himself. Mika looked in the direction of where Karam was pointing at and saw the school’s most cheerful student, Lee Injun sitting there at the table and waving his arms so fast in the air it was like a blur. This boy was well known for his aegyo and cheerfulness throughout the whole school. As such, he was loved by the teachers, yet sometimes his over-cheerfulness would be too much for some of the students. Karam meanwhile had totally missed out on the whole thing and was off skipping happily in the direction of his friend while trying not to spill his food.
As they neared the table, Injun stood up to greet them all. “Hi Karam!! I saved us a spot!! Hi Hyunmin-hyung, hi Mika-hyung!” he said excitedly.
“Hi Injun,” Mika and Hyunmin greeted back at the same time. “Here’s your lunch Injun,” Mika said as he placed one of the trays he was holding down in front of Injun. Injun looked up at Mika with cute puppy dog eyes and said, “Aww thank you so much hyung!!”
Karam looked on and asked, “Ooh do you guys know each other already?”
“Of course! Everyone in this school knows Injun. He’s well known for his aegyo,” Hyunmin said as he reached out and pinched Injun’s soft cheeks.
“Gahh hyung! Why do you always do that every time you see me?” Injun said as he batted Hyunmin’s hands away.
“Isn’t it obvious, Injunnie? It’s because you’re so cute, no one can resist your cuteness in this school,” Hyunmin said as they all sat down around the table. Karam and Injun sat on one side of the table and Mika sat opposite of Karam while Hyunmin sat opposite of Injun.
“Hahaha really now? Aww Injun, you never told me you were popular in this school,” Karam said jokingly.
“Aww I’m sorry Karam,” Injun said as he turned his puppy dog eyes onto Karam. “Forgive me?” Everyone all laughed at that. Really, who could resist this boy’s cute charms?
“Sooo …” Injun said as they all settled down and started eating. “What did you get up to on the weekend Karam?” Injun asked randomly.
“Hmm? Oh nothing much, Mika-hyung just took me out on a date,” Karam replied casually with a smile on his face. Mika choked on his food and Hyunmin quickly put his fork down to start patting Mika on the back while trying not to laugh at the same time. Injun just sat there with his mouth wide open in surprise before he finally snapped out of it and started laughing at Mika’s reaction and at what Karam had just said.
“Hahaha sorry hyung, are you okay?” Karam asked handing Mika a bottle of water. “I was only joking guys, we didn’t go on a date hehe. We just spent the day together on Saturday with Mika-hyung showing me around because I’m still a bit unfamiliar here, having only moved from the states just a few weeks ago,” Karam explained.
“Ooh, you’re from the states Karam?” Hyunmin asked. “Wow your English must be pretty good, you’ll have to give me some lessons on it one day. My English needs improvement since I failed my last exam hahaha.”
“Oh, sure Hyunmin-hyung, I don’t mind helping out,” Karam replied politely.
“Well if you actually paid attention in class instead, then maybe you wouldn’t keep failing Hyunmin,” Mika said once he’d calmed down from his choking fit.
“Like you’re one to talk,” Hyunmin replied with a smirk. “Weren’t you the one who spacing off all day today during class, you even made our teacher worry over you hahaha.”
Mika was about to hit his friend over the head when his phone started ringing and he quickly answered the phone, recognizing it as the ringtone he’d set for his father’s number.
“Hello, appa?” Mika said into the phone with a smile on his face. It’d been just over a month now since his father had left on his latest business trip and Mika was feeling pretty lonely at home.
“Hello Suhoon, how are you doing? Hope I’m not interrupting you now?”
“I’m good thanks appa, how are you? And it’s okay, I’m on lunch break now so it’s all good,” Mika replied back. Meanwhile everyone else had fallen quiet around the table. Hyunmin knew that Mika always missed his father whenever he was away on his business trips (even though on the outside Mika would always keep up a tough front). Karam was curious since Mika had told him about his past on the weekend, and Injun was just quiet because he knew it was rude to disrupt people talking on the phone.
“I’m good too. Sorry appa hasn’t called you lately. I’ve been really busy with work over here.”
Mika heard his father sigh on the other end and asked, “What’s the matter appa?”
“Suhoon, I’m sorry but I won’t be able to come back for another week. Some things happened and it’s caused a lot delays on my company’s side, and I can’t come back until things are solved here. I’m sorry Suhoon.”
“Oh … another week?” Hyunmin heard Mika answer back. “I-it’s okay appa, you don’t need to apologize, I understand that work is important. Just take care of yourself and don’t fall sick okay? I don’t want you coming back only to have me nursing you once you’re home,” Mika said jokingly trying to make light of the conversation. Even though he understood that things like this happened all the time, he couldn’t help but feel a bit sad on the inside. He’d already felt lonely enough as it was being alone for one month by himself and now add onto that another week? But he tried his best to be happy so he wouldn’t worry his father.
“Okay, I promise I’ll stay safe, thank you Suhoon, and sorry again for the bad news.”
Mika and his father continued to talk a bit more after that. Meanwhile Hyunmin had pretty much caught onto what had happened having been friends with Mika since they were in elementary school. Hyunmin could see Mika’s smiling face slowly break down to a sad expression once he’d heard what his father had said on the other end. As Mika ended his phone call with his father, Hyunmin quickly came up with a plan to cheer his friend up.
“Sorry about that guys, that was just my appa on the phone. He’ll be away for another week, so looks like it’ll just me alone at home again for the rest of the week,” Mika said as a way of explaining things.
“Oh I see … hey Mika,” Hyunmin said. “Since he won’t be back for another week, do you want to come sleep over at my place? We can even have a barbeque tonight. There won’t be school for the next few days because it’ll be Ch’usok (A/N: Korean Thanksgiving Day) so we won’t have to worry about sleeping early tonight either. My parents will be away preparing for Thanksgiving at my grandparents’ and they said I didn’t have to participate so it’s okay.”
“Oh hmm … yea sure that’d be cool,” Mika said, his smile slowly returning to his face.
“And while we’re at it, Karam and Injun, you guys can come over too! You could all stay over if you wanted to,” Hyunmin said with a smirk on his face.
“Oooh sounds good, but I need to ask my parents first, wait I’ll call them now,” Karam said. Injun on the other hand declined the offer with a sad face.
“I can’t come, I have to look after my brother because my parents are visiting my grandma who’s in hospital over in Seoul.”
“Oh, how old is your brother Injun?” Hyunmin asked.
“He’s fifteen this year,” Injun replied.
“Oh well in that case, just invite him along, it’ll be fun! We’re all nice people, we won’t hurt him,” Hyunmin said with a laugh.
Injun thought about it quickly. Everyone was really nice and he really did want to go to Hyunmin’s, it sounded like fun. “Hmm okay we’ll come, I’ll let him know, I’m sure he won’t mind. But we won’t be able to stay for the night.”
Meanwhile Karam got off the phone with a smile on his face. “Yayy my parents are okay with it, I can stay over for two nights, on the third day I need to go back home for Thanksgiving,” he exclaimed happily as he set his phone on the table face down. Injun looked at the phone and to his surprise saw a sticker photo of Karam and Mika on it.
Injun is quick to react and quickly snatches up the phone and asks, “Oooh what’s this??”
Mika looked up to see what Injun was talking about and when he saw Injun pointing to the sticker photo on Karam’s phone, he felt like banging his head on the table.
“Oh, that’s just a photo we took at a sticker booth in the arcade centre when Mika-hyung took me there on Saturday,” Karam replied casually.
“Aww no fair! Next time I want to take one with you! But you guys look so cute together ~ nawwww,” Injun said.
“Aww you never took photos with me when we went to the arcade centre Mika,” Hyunmin said in mock jealousy. Then he remembered that Mika had a sticker photo on his phone too. Quickly before Mika could react, Hyunmin snatched Mika’s phone from where it had been on the table and showed it to Injun.
“Look Mika has one on his phone too,” he said with a grin.
“Awww they look so cute in this one too! Wow you guys are really photogenic,” he said in admiration.
“Hahaha what are you on about Injunnie, aren’t you the photogenic one with your cute chubby cheeks and innocent smile?” Hyunmin said which caused everyone around them to laugh.
The rest of lunch break passed by quickly after that as the boys decided on what time to meet at Hyunmin’s place. Injun said he would go home first obviously to get his brother before heading to Hyunmin’s. Because Karam was still unfamiliar with the area, Mika agreed that he would go pick up Karam first and then they would head off together to Hyunmin’s house.

After School …
After packing his school uniform, toothbrush, towel, casual clothes and other things necessary for the sleepover that would be needed, Mika zipped up his bag and quickly checked to make sure all the windows were closed and lights were turned off before he headed out the door of his house, locking it firmly behind him.
Ahh Hyunmin is such a good friend, he knows just what to do to cheer me up Mika thought to himself as he started walking at a leisurely pace to Karam’s house.
When he arrived twenty minutes later, Karam answered the door, his parents were still at work and wouldn’t be home for another two hours or so.
“Sorry hyung, I wasn’t expecting you to be so early, I’m not even ready yet! Ahh come upstairs, you can talk to me while I pack,” Karam said as he ushered Mika inside the house. Mika walked inside and dropped his bags beside the couch in the living room and then followed Karam upstairs.
“Wow, you have a pretty tidy room,” Mika said as Karam led them to his bedroom. Karam’s queen size bed was in the left hand corner of the room in front of them while his desk was in the right corner of the room. Karam opened the doors of his wardrobe, which was situated in the corner just beside the door. He grabbed a backpack from the wardrobe and tossed it in to the middle of his room.
“Hmm I’ll be staying for two nights, so I’ll need my pajamas, and two set of clothes,” Karam said talking to himself as Mika sat himself down on Karam’s bed and watched the boy in amusement.
“Do you need any help Karam?” Mika asked as he bounced on the bed lightly.
“Hmm no I think I’m good at the moment,” Karam said as he sat on the floor folding his clothes neatly and putting them into the backpack. Mika just smiled at the boy as he leaned back on the bed. Feeling a lump underneath where his hand was, Mika turned around and lifted the bed covers off to reveal a white fluffy teddy bear underneath with a manga book lying beside it. Awwww so cute >.<
“Awwwww Karam, do you hug this to sleep every night?” Mika said as he held the bear up for Karam to see. Karam looked up from where he was putting the last of his clothes in his backpack and his eyes went wide when he saw Mika holding up his bear.
“Gahh oh my god, you weren’t supposed to see that!” Karam exclaimed as he quickly got up and tried to take the bear out of Mika’s hands. But Mika was fast and quickly pulled his hand back out of Karam’s reach. Karam then tried a different tactic and tackled Mika onto the bed and held his wrists down.
Mika wasn’t expecting this and was so surprised he let go of the bear. But he was quick to react and started attacking Karam by tickling him before he could grab the bear. And it turns out Karam was a very ticklish person. His laughter filled the room for the next few minutes as Mika tickled him mercilessly.
“Hyung - stop it hahahha no more please!” Karam said between fits of laughter as he sat on Mika’s stomach trying to bat Mika’s hands away. Mika just ignored his request, smiling evilly and continued on relentlessly.
Suddenly Karam lost balance on top of Mika’s stomach as he leaned in too far from laughing and then he fell forward until their faces were only inches apart. The only thing separating them was Karam’s hands, which were on either side of Mika’s head.
Mika gazed deep into Karam’s hazel eyes and he felt his heart start to beat faster. He reached up to brush a strand of Karam’s silky hair away from his forehead with his fingers and saw Karam’s cheeks tinge in a light pink from the action. As Karam tried to turn his head away in embarrassment, Mika’s fingers slowly trailed down his cheek and cupped his chin to stop him from looking away.
Mika kept his eyes locked on Karam’s and just when he was about to close the distance between them, his phone suddenly started ringing in his pocket. Upon feeling the vibration of the phone underneath him, Karam quickly looked away and scrambled off Mika.
Omg what just came over me >.< I can’t believe I almost .. almost .. gahh! Sitting up quickly, Mika pulled his phone out as he felt his cheeks heat up from what had almost just happened. He looked at the caller ID and saw it was his best friend calling. Pressing down on the answer button, Mika put the phone to his ear. “Hello, Hyunmin?”
“Hey Mika, are you with Karam yet? How long will you guys be?”
Mika looked off to the side and saw Karam rushing around trying to busy himself with the packing and avoid Mika’s gaze. “Umm … I’m at Karam’s now, he’s just finishing up with his packing. Why?”
“Oh I was thinking if you guys still haven’t left yet, maybe you can stop at the shops on the way and help buy some groceries, I only just realized that we don’t have any food in the house …”
“Hmm … well we could stop by on the way, but we’re sort of both going to be carrying bags for the sleepover, so it probably wouldn’t be good to walk into the shops with them. Tell you what, we’ll go to your place first, put down our bags and then go out again to buy the stuff, it’s only a short walk anyway.”
“Oh okay then, no problem! So I’ll see you guys soon then!”
“Yep, we’ll be there around 20 minutes, see you soon,” Mika said ending the phone call. He looked around and saw Karam zipping up his bag. He then noticed that this bag also had cute accessories dangling off it everywhere. Can this boy get any cuter? >.<
“Umm that was Hyunmin calling, you all packed and ready to go now?” Mika asked.
“Uhh yep I think I got everything, lets go before he has to wait any longer,” Karam said quickly as they headed out of the bedroom and down the stairs. Grabbing his bags from where he left them Mika then followed Karam out of the house and waited as Karam locked the door before they headed off in the direction of Hyunmin’s house - with Mika leading of course.
As they started walking, Mika tried to break the awkwardness between them by talking about how he and Hyunmin became friends and have been best buddies ever since elementary school. It didn’t take long for Karam to start smiling and laughing again as Mika told him all the trouble and mischief they used to get into and by the time they arrived at Hyunmin’s house, Karam was clinging onto Mika’s arm from the stomach cramps he was getting from having laughed too much from Mika’s stories.
