After not watching much in the way of tv for the past few weeks, we decided to catch up on Pushing Daisies. The last episode we saw was back before Thanksgiving, so we had three episodes on the DVR.
I'm going to miss this show so much! I loved all three of these of these episodes!
The dialog is just so amazing what with the cadence, the rhythm, how quick the references go past, the asides, the double and triple entendres. Like Gilmore Girls or The West Wing, Pushing Daisies has such a beautiful and distinctive style that I adore. I know that I only catch half of what's there as I watch and I love that there is going to be so much more to unpack when I rewatch once the DVDs come out.
And the visual style is just as distinctive as the verbal style. From the super-realistic saturated colors to the beautifully coordinated sets to Emerson Cod's shirts and Olive and Chuck's wardrobe, they have realized their vision with such depth that it sometimes takes my breath away.
Onto a few notes about the episodes I saw:
- Chuck's father is a real ass. It took about 2 minutes before I couldn't stand him at all. The writers seem to have it in for fathers on this show. Why not be more evenhanded?
- Well, now we know more about the contraptions that Ned was talking about having built. After seeing the plastic barrier on their bed that allows them to snuggle, I'm of the opinion that they have quite definitely had sex. They have found a way.
- Jay thought for certain that Lily was going to be the one who was in the cemetery and got knocked off. That would have been interesting and then Chuck's entire family would have been undead.
- MILF Mobile!
- I loved Emerson and Olive working together. They have tons of chemistry. Also Itty Bitty! And trying to fit the two of them into a shot together was too funny.
- George Hamilton as Ned's dad?? Huh.
