Not following her cousin's advice, Chloe wore a black and light silver dress instead of the red one, but she did follow Lois' advice on the shoesand wore the most amazing pair of black shoes she had ever seen. Lois' words, not hers

Bruce Wayne may have been his best friend, but when it came to punctuality, they were as different as...well. Green Arrow and Batman. Bruce was notariously late everywhere he went--especially if it involved work, benefits, parties, or dates.
Oliver, on occasion, was late to a party, but generally on time if not early for everything else. It was just good business. So when Chloe Sullivan was running late, he figured she'd decided he wasn't worth her time, or that she'd known from the start that she wasn't really going to show up.
Which was really kind of a bummer considering he was more than a bit intrigued by her. The fact that she had already written two articles about the Green Arrow in her very short time in Star City didn't help his curiousity.
So when he spotted her at the front of the restaurant, he rose to his feet, a small smile tugging at his lips.
Chloe was talking to the hostess when she caught Oliver getting up out of the corner of her eyes, if the day she met him he could almost pass for a normal civilian, today he was full on Oliver Queen. The man looked so perfect he seemed to have stepped right out of one of his photoshoots.
Since she was late, she smiled at him just a little more than she normally would, always good to test how far a smile would go with men. She followed the hostess towards the table and met his eyes, "hope you didn't wait too long," that was as close to an apology as she would get.
"Not long," he said easily, smiling back at her. "You look beautiful." He pulled the chair out for her. If she thought running late was going to get her out of having dinner with him, she was very mistaken. As much as he liked to be on time for things like dates, he was fairly laid back when it came to other people being late. Another side effect of being best friends with someone who was always late, he supposed.
Sitting down, she waited for him to do the same, manners and flattery? That was not something she was used to, and of she hadn't found it in Kansas, she surely didn't expect to find it in California, but it was a nice surprise.
"Thank you," she smiled once more as he sat down next to her.
Oliver ordered them a bottle of white wine and told the waiter they'd need some time before ordering their meal. Then he turned to look at her once more. "So I never asked. What is it you do, Chloe?" He smiled pleasantly, wondering if she'd be honest or not. It always depended on the reporter.
As soon as he asked the question, she knew it was a tricky one, or he meant for it to be, she already had the feeling he knew who she was anyway, so she shrugged and smiled, "I'm a reporter for the Gazette." She met his eyes as she spoke, watching him for any reactions to the information.
"Oh." He simply smiled and nodded a little, his expression giving nothing away. "How long have you been a journalist?" He took another drink of his water.
Perfectly passive expression? He was good. Even if he didn't know before, the fact that she was a reporter and he was a celebrity should have gotten a reaction out of him, "well, that depends on what you consider being a journalist, I have been writing for the school paper since I was eight."
"Well, Chloe, we don't really know each other very well," he pointed out, still grinning. "I have no idea what you can or can't handle. But if I'd known my lovely date was writing for the local paper, I would have paid a lot more attention." Of course he'd paid plenty of attention. But he wasn't about to let her know that.
He had no reason to lie to her, not unless he was a compulsive liar, which was always a possibility, but other than that, why would he lie about reading the article? But she had been sure... well, whatever, she could obsess about it later.
"I guess you can catch up on my local articles when I get home," it sounded like a suggestion, but it wasn't, "and getting to know each other is the whole point of tonight, isn't it?"
Oliver smiled at her. "It is," he agreed, nodding and watching as the waiter poured them each a glass of wine. "So what have you been writing about?" he asked with purposely feigned curiosity. Truthfully, he was more than a tad curious what her interest in the Green Arrow was. Usually Batman was the one who was the subject of interest when it came to reporters. Not that many people outside of Star City even knew about the city's 'hero.'
"Your local vigilante," she picked up the glass of wine and sipped on it, raising her eyebrows a little, it was a really nice taste, definitely a good choice.
After a second, she turned her eyes back on Oliver, "I assume you've heard about him?"
"I don't know," he said, cocking his head to the side. "I think people are a lot more interested in Batman than this guy." He shrugged a little. "How do you know the guy really exists?"
"Like I said, the media hasn't been giving him the attention he deserves." Chloe paused for a second, deciding if she should tell him about seeing him just to prove her point, but she just shrugged, "I have my sources."
They were now, she thought, but instead of saying anything, she just smirked and sipped on her wine once more, it was really good, besides, it kept her from talking too much.
"But enough about me, why don't we talk about you for a change? Like, what were you doing at that bar on Saturday?"
If only it were that simple, he thought, offering her a small smile. "Yeah, maybe not." He drew in a breath and let it out slowly. "Anyway. Enough discussion about Lex Luthor. Tell me more about Chloe Sullivan."
Chloe kept her eyes on him for a second then shrugged, letting it go, she barely knew the guy, she wasn't about to expect him to open up to her.
Turning to open the menu and looking down at it, "what do you wanna know? Born and raised in Metropolis, workaholic journalist, obsessed with beating my cousin at things is the best summary I can come up with." She glanced at him and smiled softly before looking back down at the menu.
