Unexpected visit with dl_greenarrow

Chloe sighed, annoyed as she pushed a box out of the way to get to the pile of boxes behind it, she had refused to unpack, even if she had been at that place for almost three weeks now. She was moving as soon as her six month contract was up because she hated it ( Read more... )

Oliver stood on her doorstep. He'd gotten a letter from her in the mail hours ago, and as soon as he'd read it, he informed his secretary he'd be gone for the rest of the week, and arranged for his pilot to fly him to Metropolis immediately. The letter was currently folded neatly and in his pocket. It hadn't taken too long to find out where she'd moved to, and he hadn't been happy when he had.

He didn't know how she was going to make it to work on time, and the area, while it wasn't as bad as Suicide Slums, wasn't nearly as good as the neighborhood she'd been living in at the clock tower.

He heard her footsteps approaching the door and he straightened, forcing himself to take a deep breath and let it out slowly.

Chloe checked on the peep-hole before opening the door and stilled when she did. No. Definitely not her cousin. She knew they would talk again, eventually, but she didn't expect him to just show up at her doorstep.

With a deep breath, she opened the door and looked up at him, "didn't expect to see you here."

He gazed at her. "I don't imagine you did." His voice was quiet. "I got your letter." He paused. "I thought we should talk."

"Oh," she blinked and looked down. Shit. She'd forgotten all about that letter that she'd sent him. Nearly having her chest opened and her heart pulled out kinda has that effect.

Without another word, she pulled the door open further and stepped aside for him to come in.

He declined the offer with a slight shake of his head. "It might not have been the goal, but it would have been a pretty big consequence." He was quiet for a moment. "I get it, Chloe. I know that this ability has screwed up your life. And I know you're scared. But sometimes...better the devil you know than the one you don't, you know?"

Sighing deeply, she rubbed her hands over her face, then looking down at her lap, "when I thought there really was such thing as making me normal again and I didn't know he was just another psycho, that consequence was something I was willing to live with."

He watched her for a moment. "He was working for Lex," he said softly. "I'm guessing you didn't know that."

"Not until after everything," she told him, pursing her lips together. If it wasn't for him, she would have ended up like Sasha, dumped in a river somewhere.

"Well, for the record, I don't blame you, either," he said quietly, looking up at her. "And I do want us to be friends." If that's all she could give him--then, or ever--he would take it. He didn't want to not have her in his life. "If you really want that, too."

Pursing her lips together, she nodded slightly, watching him for a long moment. She had been right about him getting over her quickly, apparently, "I do if you are comfortable with it."

"I'm not going to lie here, Chloe. I want a lot more than that. But I don't really have many friends, so I'd like to keep the ones I do have." He looked down at his hands for a moment. "And you know me better than pretty much anyone."

At that, she paused and looked over at him before looking down and taking a deep breath, "isn't this going to make it harder for you?" And possibly for herself.

"Every night since I moved here, except for one night when I heard them fighting, but don't worry, they made up. A lot," she told him, raising her eyebrows and looking from the ceiling to him.

He tried. Hard. But in the end, a smile quirked his lips and he couldn't help the chuckle that escaped him.

Chloe smirked a little and watched him for a second, relaxing slightly, "I tried tv, running the AC, music, even headphones, nothing is loud enough to beat them."

That made him laugh a little harder and he shook his head, trying to get past the laughter so he could speak. "Every night? Really?"

He grinned at her, watching as she got her purse. He offered her his arm. "We'll find you a great place," he promised.

Chloe looked at him for a second and hesitated before taking his arm and nodding, "I hope so."
