One of the bonuses of having a season subscription to the Canadian Opera Company is that it comes with free access to the Naxos Music Library. NML is a streaming service that covers far more than just the Naxos label. Yesterday's lunchtime concert at the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre featured the Tokai Quartet. First up was Beethoven's Quartet in C sharp Minor Op. 131. This is a work I know well and love and it was fantastic to hear it performed well in the lovely acoustic of the RBA. Last night there was a free after work concert at the Four Seasons Centre. Local baritone Brett Polegato, accompanied by the amazingly versatile Liz Upchurch, gave a recital of songs on the theme "Heaven and Earth". I love being able to go to the free lunchtime concerts at the Four Seasons Centre. This week is especially cool. Just back from the Four Seasons centre where members of the COC Studio Ensemble and the COC Orchestra performed some vocal pieces with chamber accompaniment.

First up was Wallis Giunta plus clarinet and piano with Parto, Parto from Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito. Mozart trouser roles are pretty much core for Wallis I think and she was very much at ( Read more... )
