Chris is winging his way back to San Francisco right now. His flight left at 6:40 am this morning. He and I were up at 4:15 am (ugh). I didn't sleep well at all so I am really dragging today. We woke the kids up at 4:40 am, put on socks and shoes, had them go potty, grabbed coats, blankets, and favorite toys, and left the house at 4:48 am. We dropped him off and headed back home again and managed to arrive home at 5:48 am. Everyone headed back to bed. Sam woke me up at 8 am. The girls woke up about 30 minutes later. It has been a rough morning.
The kids head back to school on Tuesday. I shall be cleaning and purging toys that afternoon. We have 5 Little People sets and it is time for them to move on to other homes. I shall be very sad. Some of these toys have been in the house for 5 or 6 years. A stage of childhood is leaving. I know it is time but it is still hard to do. I think 1 set may survive, for a little while at least. We have a zoo, a farm, a Noah's ark, a garage, and a castle. The castle seems to be the most likely to survive at this time. Since Sam received 3 different Imaginext sets and the girls received a bunch of Barbie and Barbie-like toys, we need to regain some space.
I am going to have some flooring companies come in and give me estimates. The carpet is 13 years old (installed by the previous owners) and desperately needs to leave. I want laminate in the entry, dining room, and 2nd living area (aka our office); a low pile carpet in the living room; and regular carpet in the bedrooms. The question is if we can afford to do it and is it worth doing the whole house if we plan to move this summer. We are knocking around the idea of moving out to SF in June. We are far from decided. The expense and school issue are the biggest problems but there are a ton of smaller cons as well. The only reason we are thinking about it now is because LucasFilm will pay for a moving company to come to our house, pack everything, and transport it to SF. However, the relocation offer expires after 1 year, which is at the end of June 2011. A move would mean we wouldn't be able to go to either MN or TX easily any more. Each trip becomes a $2000 (or higher) airline expense or 3+ day one way drive. We would probably not be able to see any of our families or friends for many years. But we would be a family again. AARRRGGG!!! This whole thing makes my head hurt!
And to make things even better, I haven't sent out my holiday letter yet. I have them printed and I have finally rebuilt my address list. My previous one was chomped down to 0 bytes by that virus that hit me in May. Grrr. Anyway, I will be sending them out this week. Finally.
Now it is time to prepare to go to my mil's house. She wants me to see if I can figure out something on her new computer. It is Windows 7 and I haven't even looked at W7 but I told her I would give it a shot.
EDIT: Chris arrived safely in SF at 11:30 am (my time).
