Shadow's Claim by Kresley Cole

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Having read a few of KC's books I can conclude that her heroes (male leads) are always : possessive, sexy, alpha-male, easily jealous, fit (has an impressive body that you could never imagine), someone powerful, etc. never gets old, does it? If the names weren't different I wont be able to tell the males apart. It's always: you're my mate, I'm your male, i cant resist you so kiss me! LOL.

The only difference where her males (lol) have a distinctive characteristic is when they're someone really special (ie, lothaire) otherwise they're just like any other immortal in the book..oozing all the perfectness you have always wanted in a real guy (gentlemen of the real world: you have some big shoes to fill!) and having the same kind of plot pattern like any of the other KC books you've read.

The way how trehan and bettina first met is bordering on ridiculousness and I can't imagine how a vampire can live for a millennium before meeting his Bride. Bettina could have reincarnated at least 50 times before being that "bettina" inner-trehan found it OK to be blooded for. I found it seriously baffling that Edward from twilight went on living almost a century without falling in love so imagine how ridiculous I thought when trehan was supposedly at least 9 centuries old but has never met his bride until bettina. Seems a bit far-fetched, doesn't it? I don't buy it, no.

In this story, bettina was in love with her childhood friend Cas before trehan decided to (literally) drop by. While she still claim that she loves Cas, she's busy playing hooky with Trehan. All the time. Girl, you can't choose, can you? it's good thing that Cas doesn't reciprocate her feelings otherwise he's gonna be seriously heart-broken. I dont pity him though. Although bettina is quite the slut for trehan, before she even met the vampire, Cas constantly goes about town making his rounds with the girls... Without telling to bettina straight that he doesnt desire her in any way at all and in a firm way so the stupid girl doesn't keep persisting or fantasising. Ugh. I seriously do not want KC to waste time writing a book for him, he's such a man-slut I can't even.

This book is tiring to read but the timeline is weaved in a way so you know what happened while this bettina-trehan thing went on. (view spoiler)[It also hints that Kosmina might find her HEA in Louisiana (because she will be dispatched there) and it also mentioned Melanthe and Thronos's incident (which I have been waiting for, but it doesn't seem like KC has any plans yet) because trehan has decided to scry for Skye hall again to find Melanthe for Bettina (whose patron/friend is Melanthe's sister, Sabine). Honestly the only thing I liked about this book is because it also mentioned Melanthe (hide spoiler)].
