Something Blue by
Emily Giffin My rating:
3 of 5 stars I read this book before "something borrowed"... In fact, I didn't even know it was a sequel.. I just picked it up from my sister's desk and went in thinking that it'd be a typical chick-lit with that fuzzy heart-warming happy ending.
Oh yeah it DID have that happy ending.. But not without those bumps!!
Tbh reading the first half of this book was depressing. The heroine cheated on her husband, yes, with Marcus but he also cheated on her! With her best friend! WTF! Sorry I don't feel for Rachel at alll.. She can burn in hell.
So yes, it was depressing. Dumped by her husband and heavily pregnant, she flies to London to meet her other best friend (the guy whose name I forget right now) and they go through some ups and downs namely cos apparently she was such a bitch to everyone previously. Yes I'm sorry she's a bitch but as a reader, and her as the protagonist, I sympathise A LOT with her, so it was really hard seeing her drop to the lowest of her life... But because of that, it was great and encouraging that she finally got back up on her own two feet, raised her kids right and fell in love. It was amazing - really love this book, but I am never going to read it again because the first half was really hard to get through without slitting my wrist.
Oh and years after I read this book, I saw the movie on Something Borrowed. Although I did root for Rachel in the movie (cos kate hudson as Darcy was truly such a bitch) I still don't think it was right for her to sleep with her best friend's husband behind her back. (Dex truly does not have a backbone for not deciding earlier who he loves)
