hum..just another Belizean week
Hey everyone!
I haven't written in a while.....because nothing exciting has really happened. Well, University of Belize is off for the summer....but the local schools (which I help at) are still open till June 25. The kids have finished their finals, so there seems to be no purpose for these kids to be at school, except to that they need to be in school till the 25th. great....it's baby-sitting time. This week has been kind of fun. They had Sports Week..where they get broken up in 3 teams and they compete in a number of competitions (i.e. lime and spoon, marathon, sack race, three-legged race, slow bike race, balloon toss, etc). It seems pretty fun..but it's TOO HOT out there. for the WHOLE DAY!! woah, those kids have to have a lot of energy.
I actually spent most of today in the office at the school typing up a progress report for CARE-Belize to the British High Commission regarding the project funding that they gave us. Part of the money went towards the poster contest that I helped in May! Did I tell y'all that first place went to a girl at my school?! I promise that I had NOTHING to do with the judging. :)
Anyway, Monday and Tuesday I spent in Belize City to get information on the British High Commission report. My supervisor was kind enough to let me stay at her house in Belize City. Her house is soooooo nice. She custom made it! Her kitchen is cool because the floor and walls are mosaic. I was about to describe her whole house..but that might be boring. Anyway, it is really beautiful. I think it would cost sooo much to customize a house in the states, but I guess I can still have ideas of what I would like my house to look like. :)
Oh yeah, on thursday we had "Drug Awareness Day"...and our school headed the whole thing. We lead the parade of schools with our 5 piece drum "band". The drummers are the kids from our youth group...so I was especially proud of them. They usually get into trouble for mischievous things..so for them to clean up and prepare the drums to play...then play them is really cool!
well, that's about it. Weekend is coming up. Not sure what I'll be doing yet...but I'll keep y'all updated!
