I am finally off the Haiti RMT and after a weekend that was both miraculous (Two whole days off! In a row!) and too short (I could've used three.), I have returned to my regular life at my regular job with regular hours. It's weird to be back. Yeah, I'm still alive. My last night shift is tomorrow. It's been a little exhausting, though very interesting. So, Haiti got me. I'll be starting the night shift on the Haiti response team tomorrow. I'm taking naps and drinking lots of caffeine to shift over into the new sleep schedule, and Beth and I just finished transforming a bedsheet into a very ad hoc blackout curtain. Listen hard. Do you hear it? It's Haiti. There are 18 people in my unit. Three are on TDY in other parts of the world, five are actually in the office, and everyone else has gotten pulled into the intense interagency insanity that is the Haiti earthquake response. As you might imagine, work has been pretty intense over the last few days. I've suddenly had twice as much work to get done in the same amount of time, but I've actually been feeling pretty good about it.
