Okay, so.
I turned in my two weeks' notice on Wednesday. In July I will bid OFDA adieu and return to Texas for some well-deserved family and friends bonding. I've enjoyed my job, but since almost a year has passed without my getting a security clearance - a key requirement for the most fun and exciting bits - I think it's time to move on. If all goes well, I'll be starting Foreign Service training in September.
After all the times over the last three months when I came home declaring that I wanted to quit my job immediately, just skip the prudent saving-money part and get right on to the next stage of my life, when the time came to send the fateful email I was strangely hesitant to do it. This probably has something to do with my extreme risk aversion - the prospect of quitting my job without having the next one solidly lined up scares the bejeezus out of me. But it's for the best, long-term, so I did it anyway.
In other news, some of you have been very vocal *coughPatticough* about your desire to see pictures of the cat.
Here you go. By the way, after about 24 hours of exposure we decided that he just didn't have the necessary gravitas to successfully pull off a name like Chairman Mao, so we're calling him Jabberwocky instead. This means that when, in the course of my slow evolution into a Crazy Cat Lady, I get a second cat, he/she will of course be called Bandersnatch.
