Smallville: 8-20: Beast
Remember what Chloe's biggest fear was?
Chloe was afraid that she would lose her mind.
And Chloe thought that she would end up in the looney bin with her mom? Because crazycakes ran in her family. Well, Chloe, get out the straight jacket and bring your mom some flowers for Mother's Day. I think that it's time that you had a long, long visit with Mommy in the Looney Bin.
Because I think that is where you belong and where you would be happiest right now.
Chloe has a very disturbing dream at the beginning of this episode. It starts out beautiful....
There is a trail of rose petals leading Chloe down into the Talon Basement, where a romantically needy Davis awaits her. He loves his Chloe-kins. And she likes him. They make out.
I was going to say, "EWWWWwww! Chloe, he's a stone cold killer! Don't do that!" But then I thought about Davis's stone cold killer abs and I thought (much like Chloe), "OK, one little deep tongued kiss and some cheek groping. What can that hurt? And I can let him think about stealing second base, maybe explore his options and then...no more. For now."
And then Chloe thinks better of Davis stealing second and calls off the play. Because there is a stinky smell in the air of the Talon basement. Chloe thinks, "Has Davis been stuffing his dead rat playmates in the walls again? I'll check it out."
Chloe leaves Davis's hard (rock hard abs) embrace and goes toward the wall, when she spots a red trail....
"Is that blood?" she asks Davis.
Chloe, Davis plays with rats the way a cat plays with rats. Yes, that is blood. Those rats don't gut themselves.
Chloe follows the trail and....some of us might want to skip this next picture, because it is horrible! And it is not a rat.
Holy Barf My Guts Off!
Wake up Chloe and get the hell out of this dream!
And so Chloe does wake up and ignores this dream (I can't blame her, I hate that last image), but does Chloe analyze her dream? Nope. Chloe, your dream is trying to tell you something. Your Freudian slip is showing.....
Let me analyze your dream, even if it is too late.
- We've got the bloody path to Perdition imagery---rose petals and blood smears.
- We've got the Forbidden Lust that cannot speak its name; it must tongue it in your mouth.
- Read some of those movie posters that you are making out in front of. Casa Brontë, I've talked about Wuthering Heights before, but I'm also thinking about the odd Brontë, Emily, who had the ferocious dog that only she could control. But one day, she up and died of TB and couldn't control the dog anymore. Then check out the Tron movie poster, it says: "The clock is ticking. Today is the day." And then there's that film noir poster that I just can't make out. But in film noir, the hero and heroine are led to a bad end by their bad decisions. Get It Chloe? Some of your mind is not lost and is trying to tell you something.
- And Chloe, you are being framed with a lot of flowers lately....
- flowers and funerals, Chloe. Stop and think about your dream.
- Beautiful Dream = Belle Reve. Get yourself to the Insane Asylum and fast. The clock is ticking.
But Chloe doesn't think about what her dream is trying to tell her. She rushes pell mell into the maw of Disaster. Chloe runs off with Davis to try and prevent that Disaster.
Chloe, what happens if Davis is driving the car and gets cut off and experiences Road Rage. Can you stop him?
What happens if Davis falls out of love with you? Jimmy did.
Chloe doesn't want Davis to spend the rest of his life in the Phantom Zone where Clark wants to put him.
Why not? The Phantom Zone could be the Perfect Place for Davis.
His Mom, Faora, and his Dad, Zod, will be there for him. It will be a Family Reunion. Davis has always wanted a family and to belong somewhere.
Why can't Chloe let Davis have his happiness?
It's what he has always wanted.
The Phantom Zone is his kind of place and filled with his kind of people. He can try and kill all he wants; they are phantoms and can't be killed. Davis can give up the Serial Killer life and become a Phantom Hunter and drive a 1967 Impala and listen to Metallica and drink Demon blood. Why do you deny him that? Davis might even be able to destroy the Phantom Zone. And who wouldn't approve of that, other than the Phantoms?
Why would Chloe think that Clark wouldn't want to send Davis to the Phantom Zone?
Clark has sent many a Kryptonian to the Phantom Zone without remorse. Shall we count them down?
Zod
Faora
The Kryptonian Duo from Arrival.
What's the problem? I hear that the woman of the Kryptonian Duo has taken up the study of the law in the Phantom Zone and she is bringing Law and Order to the place. And it is much needed. And the guy of the Kryptonian Duo became a Hero and got married and had a little boy. Everything has turned out well for them. The Phantom Zone rehabilitated them. Who's to say that it won't work out well for Davis?
It is times like these that this show needs Lana. Yeah, you heard me right. Lana never got all sentimental about her old boyfriends. When it was time for them to go, Lana made sure that they went and stayed gone.
When Lana blew up Bizarro, she just wiped off his dust and went on with her life with Clark.
Chloe should develop some of Lana's Attitudes.
Incidentals:
Clark to Davis: "Chloe doesn't love you." Clark, you didn't see Chloe's dream. See above.
Clark to Ollie: "Davis is my problem and I will take care of him." Clark, say this to Chloe.
Whenever anyone tries to protect Clark, bad things happen. There has been a long history of that on this show.
