School days question

One of my classes this year includes practice teaching in which we have to prepare some lesson plans and then go out and practice them in an actual classroom setting with actual students. We have to prepare an elementary, a middle school, and a high school lesson plan. My area of choice for these lessons is music history (jazz age). So I've got ( Read more... )

You'll only get a date if you gender-bend and go to extremes in stalking your ~true love~.

Oh and that if they're straight they'll probably be inflexible on that point...

OH! And if you're in an idol competition, you should probably not go running after that stupid person who will inevitably get themselves kidnapped. Because you will be DISQUALIFIED and end up with a HUGE cut on your face.

Ung. High school.

I'm guessing I didn't miss much by not going to high school, then.

But I have to teach an actual lesson to these kids... like you know, about school stuff.

Do you remember anything you learned from teachers in high school?

That's probably not something I can answer? There were more good things than bad, personally. But who knows what you would have experienced.

Tsk. Mr. Varner, are you asking us to do your homework for you?

Most of the lessons in high school that you learn -or maybe more: retain- are not academic ones. I couldn't name more than like... three Emperors and I have a program that calculates area and measurements for me. But I do know that if you're caught in a compromising situation then likely teachers will jump to the worst possible conclusion. Because you are a stupid teenager and they are ~adults~ and obviously have all the wisdom. Also: if you go to the school doctor and you're not really sick, likely you will leave the health room in worse condition than you entered. Things like that.

What stuck with me most were things not learned in a lecture. You know, like 'Don't taunt the bully with the sharp #2 pencil because he will stab you.' And eventually, 'It's far better to be the bully with the sharp #2 pencil because then nobody messes with you.' Grade school pecking order and all.

...those sound like good lessons. But... I think I'm supposed to teach them an actual school lesson, you know?

Don't share needles and don't sleep around without protection or you'll get herpes - best lessons of health class!

Music, huh? Don't most kids sleep during music class? Or was that just me?

Spending a lot of time in detention got me a wife. She was the librarian in charge of my detention. heh. (OK, so after the first few times I was doing it on purpose to spend time with the hot librarian. ;))

For me, it was often instilled in us to 'Say what you mean and mean what you say'.

My son is in school now and, one of the things that I wish his classmates already knew, is that being "different" is okay. It doesn't make you any better or any worse than the person sitting next to you, and you just might find out that they have something to offer, and vice-versa.

... that sounds like an important thing to remember. But um. I meant more something a teacher would teach you.
