The following was ganked with permission from
headbanger118's journal... I had to share it.
Happy 231st birthday, United States of America. For all the problems you have, and all the crap you hear from the world at large, I still think you are the place to be. Here I can worship where I want; I can make fun of our leader if I want (and rest assured I will in 2008); and I can even sue McDonald's over the fact that coffee is hot. Here I can protest what I disagree with, and I can even hole up in a cabin in Montana with canned foods in my basement and wait for the end times. I can raise awareness for any cause from HIV to animal rights to freeing Paris Hilton (mission accomplished). I can watch indy films of conciousness, or I can kick back with popcorn and watch Shrek 37. I can read Karl Marx, Common Sense, or the Turner Diaries. I can listen to country, metal, rap, classical, or industrial techno.
Freedom = Choice. That has its pros and cons. It allows insanity to coexist with common sense. It results in factions within government, and indeed the country. And yet, America, we seem to be able to make it work. We are Dems, GOP's, doves, hawks, Independents, Blacks, Asians, Hispanics, Whites, and host of other races and creeds, and we are Americans.
WIth great power comes great responsibility. Sometimes we live up to it; other times we don't. So happy birthday America. I am proud to call you home. God Bless You.
