I was wrong, got a female and two males. DOH! Need to go back and get another female, hopefully they'll still have one. 50:50 ratio, not as good as a 1:3 ratio, but.. Better than a 2:1 ratio.. Here they are schooling, the platies don't do this all that often, I'm going to chalk it up to the skewed gender ratio:

As much as I really miss my long-finned leopard danios and beautiful lyretail mollies, I'm really loving these green swordtails (and all their cute little fry) and these tiger platies I picked up (for the second time). They are all so much more docile and passive.

I need a glass scrapper. Bought a scrubber today, DID NOT CUT IT. Algae.. bleh..

Yeah, I REALLY need to stay out of the petstores.. Got myself 4 baby tiger platys. Look them up, you'll see why I HAD to have them. I feel like I should really find some place else to put the long finned leopard danios... And also the mother Lyretail Molly. So, I kinda forgot to update here, since I put it all on facebook. I basically finished the terrarium re-model. There are a few finishing touches that need to be added. But here's the rest of how it progressed.

Newest water test, pH 7.4, hardness around 150-200 ppm. Hardness could be a bit more. But 7.4 pH, I can be happy with that. Everyone in that tank should be happy with that. Even the danios can adjust ( Read more... )

I'll miss those lil loach buggers. They were a PITA to catch, too, btw. I found the easiest way was to bribe them with food pellets, then slowly sneak up on them with the net. Much easier than trying to chase them around under driftwood and plants... So I brought my lovely zebra loaches back to the fish store, and he gave me a store credit. He ( Read more... )

Too many fish in this tank- so I went a bit overboard. I've decided, the Zebra Loaches are going to have to go- despite their beauty and entertainment value. With this many fish, I wouldn't be surprised if they started taking their frustrations out on their tank-mates. And though I have no proof, I feel that this tank could do without the bottom ( Read more... )

These two pics reveal that I have a total of 21 fry. They are beginning to develop some coloration. Can't wait to see if they are lyretail or not.
